Wasatch Fly Tying and Fishing Expo
#1
Well i went. For some reason my wife insisted on us going. Not normally my thing but my wife who is not a fisher lady thought I should. So, what do you think?
For me, and I emphasize, for me, it wasn't my thing. It was comprised of by far mostly booths and fly tying seats. Don't know what else to expect but since I'm having such good success at what I normally do, ?????? that's the problem for me., stubborn old coot happy with what he's doing. [Smile]
One thing that made it worthwhile was I got a pair of
used/rental Simms Gor tex waders for $60 .
But I did observe the lack of warm water fishing booths, etc. I love bass during 7 months of the year.
Just wondering what others think?

I'm glad that you got a good deal on a pair of waders. It is titled the fly tying and fly fishing expo for the reason of that is the majority of what people go to this expo for. I'm sorry that you were disappointed by this fact and hopefully you can find a different expo that tickles your fancy a little more

Well, there ya go, can't disagree with ya at all. Just curious about what others thought. I knew what to expect but the wifey thought she knew better and was trying to be the "good wife" I just am trying to get a fell as to if others might think that they could provide a more accessible forum for general fishing info.? Maybe I'm just was closed minded but where was the warm water info. and just general lectures on fishing info. for the general public? I may have to admit that wasn't the venue and I'm being unfair. Is there such a venue?

The northern Utah Trout Unlimited chapters put this on. Cache Valley, Salt Lake/Utah Co. Park City etc. It's a fundraiser for TU.
This is the 5th year if I'm not mistaken. If it's warm water fishing then you might find it at the ISE show.

Seventh year. Where else could you go and see so many of the great local fly tyers? Lots of classes and education, both free and a token cost of $20. I thought it was well worth the $5.00 for both days. Many assume items were raffled off and let us not forget this is a fund raiser for the local TU chapters that do so much for all of the local fisheries. I say thank you to all that helped to put this on.

I was honored to be a part. I saw several tiers with warm water specific flies. Cheech is all about Bass, and Curtis is pure artist on warm water flies.
ALL for a great cause too.

My family had a great time! My oldest got to tie a fly, and my youngest got to have his face painted. Plus, I got to talk to a local Bamboo Rod maker that I've been wanting to meet and check out an Allen reel (that I'm now trying to find the cash to buy). Not sure what you were looking for, but I got what I wanted.

I don't know Leaky, I would have been pretty happy if my wife ever suggested we go to anything fishing related. I got to work in the yard on Saturday instead [:/]

There were new inflatable boat companies, and my Hubby even scored a killer Knife Sharpener. Several booths with fly tying material and Thingamabobber was there.
Not to mention, guest speaker of the day, a legion in his own mind, HANK PATTERSON. That alone was worth it[laugh]

You fish with flies, I would have thought you would be jumping for joy.

These shows do so much for the fishing conditions in the future, but every booth had something to do with actual fishing.

I am with FG. The show was very nice. My wife encouraged me to attend. I could only get away from work for a couple of hours but I enjoyed myself. I kept looking to see if FG was tying - but no FG.
So, I sat at Lance Egans table---very informative.
