Hyrum Slow Start
#1
Went to Hyrum today got on the water around 8:00 after waiting for 45 minutes at Walmart for a license. Anyway we ended up landing 3 fish missed 9 other hits but fished hard until 3:00. Water was a little stained, may have been part of the problem. Lots of boats today and no one admitted to catching more than a couple. Our biggest was only 14" the smaller class fish are about 10" now. Fun but slow day. Later J

So - the new Tube, or the Boat? Trolling, pitching?

What part of the lake, or all over? Gather there's some [url "https://www.facebook.com/events/132712240248803/"]tagged fish contest[/url], starting Apr 20th.

Hey Yote I was in the boat and trolling. We covered most of the pond today and couldn't find a hot spot it was the toughest day on Hyrum in over two years. I guess we need the water to clear a bit. Later J

So Yote tell me more about the contest? That one last year brought so many more fishermen to the lake, between that and a long ice season it's seeming like Hyrum has really went downhill. I hate to see that, it was a lot of fun last year. Hope DWR cranks up their planting numbers it needs a transfusion. I was in hopes that big shot of small ones last year would grow up before they got fished out, but it seems like they took a hurten. So any word on ice clearing on the pig? I may have to get my farm work done and quit wasting my time until things clear up. Later J

Don't know if I can tell you much more about it. I posted a link - check that. Gots all the details.

Guess they'll plant tagged fish, turn 'em in at the office for prizes. No entry, no fee - beyond the usual park access fee.

Doesn't look like they've really fired up the spring stocking yet. Expect they will soon. I did my part to catch and release a bunch of trout off the harddeck!

I'd actually be more interested in finding some bedding bass, or my little yellow friends! But the slime-rockets can be fun sometimes. Still dissapointed I didn't find Mr Monster Brown under the ice. Rivers are calling!

Last I heard on Porky- I wouldn't be surprised if it's open. Not sure about driving down that steep road if it's still spring muddy.
Did you get a downrigger to go on your toon?

Thanks for the update on my whines and yes I did put a down rigger on my toon, it's a homemade one though, but I think it should work. It will also work as my side plane attach point. One of those tricks I want to get out and try. Especially now when the fish hit the shallows for warmth. Besides after the way my trolling motor ran yesterday I think the electric motor will be a great break. Was that good fuel treatment called Seafoam? My motor kept killing on me yesterday and wouldn't start very well after, so I'm hoping it will get better after this first tank. I thought I'd emptied the tank last fall but I guess I must have filled it after the bear lake white fish trip or when I thought I'd be taking it after Cisco. Anyway thanks again for the info. Jeff buy a bottle of seafoam and run it directly out of bottle into carb through a fuel line. Do not mix it with gas. it is a fuel treatment but works better if used strait out of bottle. we use it on pony moters out here in oil field and it cleans then up inside better than anything i have seen. It will blow black and gray smoke wile it is being consumed by the motor but when it is done you will have a neer new motor. Ask Zack about it seafoam is a car salesman's dream. [bobhappy][bobhappy][bobhappy] you will probably get more power out the motor after will probably go so fast it will strip paint off the side of the boat. Have fun fishing with the California crowd wish i could have come up to see ya this last days off but you know how it is. give Terry and Ash a hug from her FAVORITE Brother. I've heard the same tails of the magic foam.
It's not a substitute for a carB-redo, if it's needed, but it can help you save, delay. And after a winter of storage - it can blow out any glazed up gunk.

It claims to be a gas-stabilizer too. I know a fresh tank, well oiled, and juiced with the foam runs with more vigor for me (though I think I might have fuel pump issues or - something).

Cursed old gas, what to do with old gas. I too have that late season tank, though it was mixed, stablized, and topped pretty full - wish I could start fresh.
But disposing of old gas. Burning it goes a long way I decided last year (not to mention the billowing tower of fire and smoke).

Boy Yote you really have those tarpon on the mind don't ya? Yah this year the old gas really is causing grief. Most of the time it doesn't affect me too bad. I'll have to try that Seafoam and see how it works because this motor was so smooth last year and now it's a long ways from that. Thanks for the tips Yote I appreciate it Later J

No luck here, but then you have to give luck a chance. I've been too busy to get back out after running the boat on the river. Hopefully I can get the rest of my spring chores done so we can go. I need to sell my old truck also (please look at that post). I would love to run down to southern utah or lake Mead but I just don't have the time or money. Hope the water warms up some.

No it Has some of the same properties as Unleaded Fuel just little stronger with some more octaine and other goods. These Pony motors we use are very sensative to different types of fuels and additives but has no problems with Sea Foam. I use it my Dodge and also in my Kenworth and it is Awsome They have a spray can you can use and spray directly into carb and it cleans almost as good as strait through the fuel line. But i prefer the strait through. Tell Steve it is a good dream for him to have. LOL

Rod I don't think you're missing much I took my nephew down Cutler Canyon this afternoon and other than the carp I got with my motor I got skunked again. Man that was a wet windy trip. Well good luck when you get out. Later J

Thanks Greg, the motor ran a little better today but I didn't try to run it really slow either. Guess I need to give up fishing and get some chores done, but I really need to catch something so I feel like I'm not a failure. When do you have some time off? We'll try Hyrum again and see if we can get a couple. Later J
