New Fly Rod
#1
Alright fly fishing experts. I would love your opinions on this. I've given up trying to find my fly rod/reel so I'm biting the bullet and buying another set up
I'll be using it on the usual rivers here in the area, with the occasional trip to the Green while up at Flaming Gorge. So that maybe once a year trip will be the only time using it in a "big" river.
That being said, what would you consider a good all around set up in the $200 range? I don't need to buy it all put together, I'm more than happy buying it in peices. I see no need to spend too much money on it just yet, but I also don't want it to suck - I know you often get what you pay for with these types of things.
Obviously I'm capable of picking it all out myself, but why not get some good input from people who (I assume) know what they're talking about...
Also, I'm neading this all by Wednesday of this coming week so lets leave online options off the table for now please.
As always, thank you in advance for your time and comments.

Today is your day just so happens I have Brand New Redington CPX rod for sale.
Its a 9 ft 6 wt, with rod sock and Cordura Rod Case. Perfect rod for big waters like Flaming Gorge & the Green, Great rod for small waters like the Provo and Weber.

If you didn't already know Redinton is the sister company to Sage and many will say the CPX is a Sage for 200.00

Not to mention there awesome customer service I broke the tip off my Redington RS3 and they sent me a RS4. Broke the tip off my RS4 and they fixed the RS4 and sent me an entire another piece with the repaired rod. Now thats service[cool]

Send me a PM you can take a look at it no obligations to buy.

I'll give a +1 for Redington. I have a 5wt RS4. I've used the hell out of it for 5yrs. I've used it and abused it and its still like new. Im a guy on a budget and I found mine on clearance for under $100. I also have an Okuma sierra reel that only runs about $35 .My setup is affordable but does the job.

Perhaps the best advice I have ever heard about freshwater flyfishing gear is this: The rod and the line do all the work, so splurge on those two and skimp on the reel.

I bought three new reels this year (my old ones were REALLY poor). I bought an Okuma for 7 wt, a Chinese eBay special for 5 wt, and a Cabela's for my 3 wt. All of them have good drag, are well made and ought to do everything I ask of them. The most expensive of them all was about $65.

That can be a tough order to fill and I agree totally on Rod and Line. But I will go farther and say concentrate on a good line which can run you half of you desired amount. You can cast a good line with anything. I also agree with Allen rods and don't worry too much about a reel, but some drag will be nice. There are killer reels for $35.00 and under.

I say Allen rods but again, I recommend you cast them. Personally, I don't care for the Redington, or the St Croix, but others love them. That is why you need to cast them first. I do have the AST and the Compass in the Allen rods I would let you try any time.
I also say when getting a heavy rod like a 6 weight get one that you will have fun with on smaller fish, more like what you will encounter on the Green, but back bone for the larger fish you could encounter on the Gorge.

Good luck and don't overlook Echo.

oh yea forgot about the Echo, i just saw an Echo Carbon on KSL a few weeks ago for 100 bucks. My brother has had an Echo Carbon for what might be 8 years now and he has beat the crap out of it and it still works like a champ
