we need help idaho falls area

hey Im always reading about all this fly fishing and a buddy and I need some help on how to fly fish we both have so less expensive rod and reels and have been trying to do it on our own but hoping someone might lend a hand to go out one day and see why we can never seem to catch a fish on a fly rod Ive only ever caught one and it was only about a 8 inch stocked trout looking for something with a little more fight thanks Adam

If you ever make it out around lava I'm doing free lessons on basic casting and presentations, I've only been actively fly fishing for 1 year now but I have picked up on it very fast and am more than willing to lend a helping hand to aNy one who may need some help, I am no expert but I am very confident in my status right now. Just let me know if you make it this way, I am home for awhile I messed up my ankle pretty good and Nancy been able to do much.

If you can get in on one of the beginner fly casting workshops. They are only $25, and it will be money well spent.

Or just go in and observe and ask questions. There are lots of people there that will help you out.

If you can't make it to the Expo, go to Jimmy's All Season Anglers and ask lots of questions.

I agree with Cpierce. The fly tying expo is an excellent source.
No offence Jeramy, but get help from a person who teaches and has been doing so for a long time. It is easy to pick up someone else's bad habits.
Don't break your wrist, keep your arm by your side, let the rod do the work, wait for it to load. Side cast, steeple cast, roll cast, overhead cast, etc.
It sounds intimidation but, a teacher makes it make sense.

no offence taken, even the seasond anglers have some of the worst habbits, i was going to take lessons but the guy had a habbit even i knew was wrong, he kept shifting his wrist position around during casts, i learnd more by going out with another fisherman and just watching him,

Best advice I can give you is go to sportsmans pickup a dozen size 16/18 renegades, get on I 15 headed north, get off at sage junction, head west, after Terreton watch for the turn off to salmon , go 30 miles, cross birch creek the 2nd time, pull off into the Kaufman camp ground and tie up and start chucking. Lots of eager fish and you can practice wadding, mending, casting all day long. If you screw up a hole it's 20 or 30 feet to the next one. Every person I've ever started fly fishing that's where I took them.
