HI there -
I have two questions for the forum, I want to take my kids for a short fishing trip out to Vernon Reservoir in the next couple of weeks. How are the conditions out there this time of year, and does anyone know if the DWR has stocked it yet? Also, has anyone that has been out there seen rattlesnakes near the camp grounds or around the lake? Wondering if I should be nervous with my small children this time of year, do not know if there are rattlers out there or not? Any help or response would be much appreciated!

I have not been up there this year but I went last year all the time! If I where u I would check the stocking reports for that, I don't think they plant it till June tho. I have never seen rattle snakes up there so I think your fine anyway it's prob to cold.

I haven't been out to Vernon yet this year so I can't help much... can tell you that it is prime rattler country but I really believe it is a bit early (cold) for them now. I have been tagged twice by rattlers, once while fishin' on the Sevier river and the other while huntin' coyotes on Keg Mountain. Neither one made it to my hide -- one got me on hip boots and the other spit on my huntin' boots. Both places are well marked with poop -- mine not the rattlers'. I think the bigger menace out by Vernon this time of the year is the woodtick. Was out that way during Easter weekend and became a host for several. Check those younguns out from top to bottom when you get 'em home.
Hope somebody can help with a stocking/fishing report.
Hope you and the kids have fun

Well I've been going since I was a kid, granted I'm only 19, and we've always made our first trip to Vernon every memorial weekend. Fishing was always awesome. I think they first stock it the week before memorial but there should still be some holdovers and also some browns and tigers are present. If your fly fishing I'd use an intermediate sinking line with either a wooly bugger or an egg sucking leech. If your using powerbait I'd suggest garlic, rainbow, corn, chartreuse, and sherbet. You can also do good chucking spinners and and crankbaits whether you're wading or from the dam. I'm going Sunday so I'll post a report on how it was.
P. S. I've always ran into snakes over there but never rattlers just HUGE water snakes.
