Howdy fellow anglers,
I've recently moved to the Vegas/S. Nevada area from upstate New York and have a simple question. I see a lot of places note that you cannot use live bait, mostly the urban ponds and possibly Floyd Lamb. I've searched high and low and can't seem to find a definitive answer as to whether this includes worms or not.
I'd like to get my son interested in fishing and I know his attention span won't allow for chucking bass baits all day long so I am hoping to find him some worm/panfish action so he can at least "feed the fish" and feel some bites.

As far as I remember all the urban ponds you can use live bait. For a little one it is about timing for that explosive bite. You have to catch the Bluegills when they are on the beds/spawning. They come up from the deep to the shores edges for that and one can catch upwards to a 100 Bluegills in a afternoon on meal worms. Small hooks, small/light bobbers and a meal worm from Walmart. The few times I caught the Bluegills in that scenerio I went through 2 foam containers of meal worms in no time and both of my daughters caught more Bluegills than I ever care to have to unhook. lol I couldn't unhook and rebait their rods fast enough when the timing was right on the Bluegills.
A good old night crawler will catch one a Catfish typically but the action generally speaking is slooooow.
In the winter months (Only time they are planted) power bait generally rules for the Rainbows.

i believe the no live bait refers to cut bait, i dont believe any cut bait is allowed there (IE mackeral shad ETC) but i dont think anyone would dis allow worms as that is fishing, old rod bobber and a worm! Can it get more classic.

Thanks guys. That is what I assumed but I didn't want to find out from a ranger that my assumption was incorrect. It looks like we'll head out to Floyd Lamb this weekend and get our first taste of Nevada fishing!

Welcome to BFT, iamrobotic. I've fished a lot of worms at the local ponds and as far as I know, they are allowed. It is a good bait as well, because just about any fish will eat one. A good choice when you're trying to show a kid how to catch rather than fish, haha. If you're getting nibbles but no takers, downsize your hook/bait. Salmon egg hooks are good for bluegill.
Thanks for posting.

Just use the worms under a bobber and you will be fine.
A good place is by the over flow dam/spillway. This is at the far side of the first pond.
Also there are some fish that hide in or under the concrete at the waters edge. (there are always fish in the cracked concrete near the edge by the picnic tables)

I've been fishing the ponds due to the wind being so high on my days off... I've been fishing for catfish and using chicken livers, hot dogs, sausage and stink bait and caught cats on them all.
