Had a friend decide he doesn't like pre-dawn awakenings, so I ventured out alone Sunday morning before sunrise by myself to find some solitude and a few fish.
Started out at Smith and Morehouse, where a co-worker of mine had some success last week. Beautiful morning in the Uinta's for fishing....too bad nothing was biting. The water itself was somewhat stained, and there was a lot of debris floating around. I only saw a few fish on the surface right before the sun came up over the East ridgeline, then nothing.
After about 1.5 biteless hours I decided I would go elsewhere, and decided on Mill Hollow over on the South Fork of the Provo drainage. There were a few small groups around the shoreline, but I was able to find a decent spot on the east side. I saw lots of fish jumping, and saw others catching fish around me. It wasn't long before I was bringing in little trout on almost every cast using either worms or powerbait. Managed 3 dink rainbows, a dink albino, and one dink tiger trout before I switched over to a flatfish lure. Only managed 1 more dink rainbow on that. After a few more people arrived, and it started to feel a bit crowded, I decided to fish the stream below the dam, and caught 2 dink brookies on a Mepps #2 blade.
Solitude wasn't exactly plentiful, but the fishing was decent enough to make it a great trip.
And for anyone interested...the water levels on the Upper Weber and Provo rivers is still up. I imagine that it's dropping, but it still looks somewhat formidable for anyone wanting to fish either of those rivers.
