Personal best Smallmouth
#1
I've been trying to take my bass fishing up a notch this spring and some hard work has been paying off. As well as some help from another BFT'er pointing me in the right direction.I know I've just hit the tip the iceberg when it comes to Bass fishing. But now I'm addicted!!

After catching mostly 12"-14'' inchers over the last couple of weeks I finally landed a nice one..( well for me anyway)[cool]

It was 17 1/2"... I know that won't impress some people. But I was stoked!!

Thanks! I caught a Largemouth earlier this spring that was bigger..well..fatter that this SMB. But the Smallie fought noticeably harder.

Heres the Largemouth I caught in May.

Who cares what "some people" think? They probably don't get bigger ones anyway. Thats a nice smallie for around here. Good work.

I'm impressed! I've caught a smallie that big before, but it's not like I could just go do it whenever. That's a heck of a nice fish!

No problem, I'm glad you got into some nice ones! I'm hoping it will still be good this weekend. I'm not sure how long the fish normally stay up on the beds. Anyone know?

Sinergy: I did catch a couple on small bugger patterns while fishing for crappie 2 or 3 weeks ago but they weren't much bigger then the crappie[pirate]... I tried larger streamers with no luck. I just don't think I was getting the right presentation. Its really difficult to get power bait to stay on a fly....[Tongue][Tongue][Tongue] haha!

Anyone who's familiar with Smallmouths would know that's a fish to be proud of - nice work man, especially for Deer Creek. I've yet to catch a quality SM, but even the small ones fight good - he put up much of a fight?

Yeah it. Put up a decent fight. Made me realize I need a more stout rod. For several years all my money has been focused on fly gear. It really need to invest in a nice bait casting setup if I plan on doing more serious bass fishing.

Those are some great looking fish. You've got me beat this year. I haven't been able to top 16" on largemouth, and probably only 14" on smallmouth this spring. And my personal best smallies have all topped out at 17.5" too. Good job, they're lots of fun. BTW, I just started using baitcasting gear a couple of weeks ago, and I think you're going to like it.
