I have been working down in Spanish Fork the last couple months and have had a few of the local boys tell me how much they like fishing Scofield. So the old man and I headed up yesterday after work and we fished the finger that shoots out to the north from the boat ramp for probably three and half hours. CHUB CITY! It seemed if we had a worm on, it was only a matter of a few reels before it turned into a dang chub. We did end up with a handful of trout as well but a handfull was about all they amounted to. Nothing over 8 or ten inches and the bulk of them (chubs and trout) would have made large bait fish at Strawberry. We grabbed our best two trout of the day trolling back to the truck but nothing photo worthy. I did really enjoy myself and the lake is very pretty. I would like to go back and try again if anybody has suggestions for getting into some bigger fish and fewer Chubs?

I can relate to your frustration. My husband & I were there a few weeks ago & fished that same spot. We usually float tube the east side of the lake, but it was really windy so we headed to the cove for some relief from the wind. No joke, we would cast (we were fly fishing) & the second our fly hit the water we had a fish on. CHUB EVERY TIME! Super annoying.
I did have a coworker fish there last weekend. He caught a few chubs, cut them up for bait & ended up catching some MASSIVE tigers & quite a few really nice cutts. He was fishing the east side of the lake. So, don't give up on Scofield all together. Location has a lot to do with what you're going to catch there.

That sounds about right. as we were getting blown off the lake last night it was boiling with those damn things. We toyed with the idea of grabbing our fly rods out of the truck just to see how many we could jerk out, but the wind convinced us otherwise. Thanks for the encouragement and tips. I will see if I can get back up there in the next couple weeks and try the east side. (after I harvest some bait perhaps[sly])

If your in a boat forget about the worms and pop gear, as you found out all you get is the chubs, Catch a chub, cut bait it into small pieces and slap it on a 3" pearl white tube jig 1/4 oz jig head. then find something that looks similar to this on your sonar.
the big trout are going deep.
I shore fished it with red sided shiners 5' under a bobber and did well in the dam arm. only one big cutt though just under the slot.float it close to the shore where there is sharp drop off and you should do well.

Good Man FNF!! That is the kind of specific guidance a hack like me is looking for! Although I am not cool enough to have a sonar I am sure that I can make it happen anway. Now i'm all excited to head up there again next week.

It's all about bait selection at Scofield. I always take a few worms so I can catch some chubs which I then use as bait for the REAL fish. I cut up the chubs that I catch into 1/2 inch pieces and put it on a treble hook, a size 2 hook or on a tube jig. The tigers get really aggressive when I reel that bait in slowly and I usually successfully hook more when I am retrieving my bait. Also, I may be the only one, but I have never caught a chub on power bait while fishing from shore. Therefore, in my opinion, the bait is what matters most when keeping away from the chubs. Also, do your part and kill any chubs that you catch.

I've always had the most success with white 3" tube jigs. Never tried the cut up chub trick, but I'm sure that'll make it even better!
