Mediocre Willard
#1
Took a first timer out last night hoping to get in on some of the action every one has been having, had some luck but not much.

Started out trolling cranks in freeway bay around 5. Nada

Switched to spinner rigs. Nada

Ran over to the island and did the same. Nada.

Ran to the light pole. Nada.

trolled to the SW corner, WALLEYE! wahoo!

We kept trolling and I hooked up again on a wiper this time, came unbuttoned half way back though! dang. Ten minutes later my friend hooked something, ended up being a fishing pole....hooked up to a 22" wiper! Never done that before!

The waves started to get a little intense for my 15' jon boat but we kept trolling all the way back into the marina, and what do you know? we picked up another wiper just as we got to the mouth of the marina! What a way to end!

All three fish came on a silver lucky craft.

Too bad the catching was so slow but at least you hooked some nice fish. 22 inch wipers are few and far between and catching a pole with a wiper on it was a bonus. It never ceases to amaze me how folks fishing at Willard don't put their rods in a holders. Wipers can easily pull unsecure rods out of a boat, especially those big ones.
