Eating Utah fish
#1
My wife and I have had a couple of good weeks fishing and we were wondering about the fish consumption adviserys.
June 7 we ate a small koke from the gorge
June 8 we smoked the rest of the kokes and ate them for dinner
June 9 and 10 we ate walleye for dinner that we caught from Willard
June 11 we had halibut in San Diego
June 13 we ate catfish taco's from Utah Lake
June 14 we ate walleye taco's from Willard
How long before we can start eating fish again?

Unless you are eating huge amounts of fish from certain waters, you don't need to worry. Check DWR's web site for specifics. Some of us have been eating Utah fish for decades and it has not affected us in the least, if you discount TD's 3rd eye and other anomolies that some of us exhibit. I believe the latest alert was for Utah Lake Catfish and Carp. Again, check the DWR site for the alerts !!

The halibut from San Diego probably has more contaminants than any utah fish even carp from utah lake. But I'd say eat to your heart's content, just not too many utah lake channels and watch out for mercury filled jordanelle. Just watch out for the advisories but even then you're better off eating advisory fish than store bought.....at least double the mercury and other contaminants allowed in store bought fish .......much higher threshold for alerts on a commercial level. Fish are not sacred, eat them and enjoy them.

The advisories are only for certain waters, and then only for the large predator fish on those waters. The fish that accumulate the most mercury are large brown trout, large bass, large catfish, large lake trout, some large cutts, large walleye etc. But again that is only for certain waters. Look at your dwr advisory map.

I don't think kokes or rainbows have much of a problem because their diet is different.
