Lower Provo - "Head's Up!"
#1
Fished the lower Provo just below the R/R trestle yesterday afternoon in a wind storm (20-30 mph sustained)... epic Baetis hatch, but I saw a lot of guys heading out and decided to bag it myself around 4:30p due to numb fingers.

Well it turned out that the reason for the mass exodus was the DNR official giving everyone upstream of the R/R trestle the boot under the accusation of trespassing.

Lots of disgruntled FFers in the parking lot when I got up there. Nobody was ticketed as far as I know, but the DNR official told one dude that the access rights were "in dispute" for that area so he acted on behalf of the land owner (until further notice I guess).

Been there done that I fished that section year before last and got chased out of there by a river rafting company. Something about Steve Alt and this is his private property ect.. ect.. Didn't understand why they couldn't share the river but freak why make a mountain out of a mole hill and left.

Long story short that area has been known for its controversy best to just skip it till the court battles die down. Lots goods fishing just down the road The MP over in Charleston produces some nice browns.

On a side note;
Last I heard I thought one of the groups had had a court order saying it was open to the public. I vaguely remember seeing some affidavit floating on this site or the dwr site by the usac or usgs or one of those groups.... I do remember printing it out cause the post said show this to a officer if he tries to site you.... but dont quote on that Ill try to find the affidavit.

Yeah, I agree. I actually prefer the middle Provo, but the lower has been fishing so well these past few weeks that I can't get off of it.

Good problem to have I guess. [Wink]

I know this may be unfair to ask over 2 months later, but any chance you know the name of the DNR person that ran folks off? This pisses me off beyond belief. For an agency that is supposed to work in the public trust, they sure seem to screw us frequently.

I haven't fished that section in a long time. Looks like I need to go up there, easement in hand, and see what happens.

Disclaimer: I'm NOT encouraging anyone else to do this. If you do it, it's not because I told you to! [Wink]
