Taking my nephew fishing for the first time sometime over the next few days. Somehow the fishing bug gene skipped my brother and his 9 year old son has never even touched a fishing pole in his life yet which I feel like is a form of neglectful child abuse [
].
Anyway I wanted to take him out on my kayak to Utah and possibly get into some cats since that what the first fish I consistently caught when I was his age down in Texas. I feel like a nice big cat caught on a simple rig would be the best way to get this kid "hooked". From the sounds of things it's not a very productive WB year. I'm most seasoned on fishing Lindon and the bubble up but this will be my first time out this year (since I moved to Idaho last year) so I am looking for any pointers on how those places are fishing or possibly other better alternatives. I even contemplated going to Salem pond since the DWR website says it was stocked with 300+ 17' cats. Not too interested in catching hatchery fish but also feel the pressure of making sure there is something on the other end of the line for this first timer. THANKS!
