Short story !! Had to go to Manti to pick up kids on Trek !! Figured since I did not have to be there till 1PM, I would pull the Big Red Skeeter down to Yuba and check it out.
Got on the water about 6:30, ran over to Walleye Pt and began working the stickups with a Woodchopper topwater. Got a couple of blowups right at the boat, but they never got close to the hooks.
Switched to a spinner bait and kept working the area. Got one short strike on that, no hookup. Threw some cranks, no takers. Went searching and getting familiar with the pond again. Haven't been down there for years.
Finally moved to the Narrows because I was getting short on time. The Power Squadron was gearing up, had skiers and jet skis going back and forth, full bore, up and down the narrows. What the hay !!
Began working the north shore line of the Narrows with a big #5 Supervibrax spinner, modified with a big bucktail treble on it. Had gone about 50 yds down the shoreline when the spinner just stopped, would not move, then began to move to deep water.
After battling the boat wakes and the fish for about 15 minutes, I was able to get her in the net. Took two hands to get her in the boat and on the deck. I only had my phone camera, left the other home on the table. So I snapped some pics on the phone. My measuring board was way to small, so I laid a rod down to get some perspective in several pics. I can measure the length on the rod to get a length of the fish.
I estimate that she was between 15 -20lbs, at least 30 inches in length. I will post some pics when I figure out how to download them off the damn phone.
So, hit .250 for the day, with one homerun. I could not believe the number of people at Yuba. That place used to be mostly deserted and now it is ridiculous !! My condolences to the Ranger down there who has to try and ride herd on the place.
Will post pics as soon as I can. Watch out for the big RED Skeeter !!!
Pezvela was downt there with a load on the barge !! Hope the guys had a good time !!

[#0000FF]Glad you got on the water but sorry you had to share it with (the worst) half of Utah. It do get busy down there...even on weekdays during the summer.
Also happy you got at least one fish. One biggun can offset the frustration of missing some smaller ones...or getting nothing else at all. There are some gorillas in there these days.
I have about given up on Yuba too. Like yourself, I remember the good 'ol days. I was just recently reckymembering one of the trips we made down with a couple of other guys and whacked the walleyes at the narrows. That was after you took your plunge in the float tube and ended up in that boat.
Ah yes...the good ol' days. Even on weekends it never got too out of hand with the power squadron. Now Yuba, like many of our other fave ponds, is pretty much ruint for anglers from Memorial Day to Labor Day...and beyond.

I guess I don't feel the same resentment that you two do.
in fact, I enjoyed my weekend at Yuba. Yes, it was crazy-busy on Saturday -- but what do you expect with record heat in mid July?? Of course the power squadron was out! Including me and my family in the black Heppy Hooker Ranger!
What was really nice, however, was seeing all that Utah county crowd pack up and go home Saturday evening, and Sunday morning. By mid-day on Sunday, the lake was glassy and the boats were few. What a great weekend.
oh, and a few fish were caught too!
This is how I roll:
Fun times. Looking forward to a few more trips to Yuba.

Yuba is a fun pond and for sure has some hogs in it as we found out the other day.fished the narrows area and came up with eight of witch 2 were walleye. Seemed the pike were plentiful two bigest were a 37" and a 41" pictured is the 41"er. We kept a smaller one for table fare, just need a good pike grilling recipe.

"I guess I don't feel the same resentment that you two do."
[#0000FF]I don't resent the heavier use by boating recreationalists. For the sake of the State Parks Department I'm glad to see them getting more use and bringing in more revenue...while they can. It is already getting grim on other waters. There was an article on that in the Tribune this morning. [#0000FF]Glad you had a nice weekend and wish you many more of the same. In truth, I have always enjoyed fishing Yuba more in the cooler months of fall...once the crazies get off the water. That is my only resentment...the folks that equate boat size and power with right of way...or ownership of the lake.[/#0000FF]

I don't mind sharing the water either, I just don't like the inconsiderate slobs that run full bore through a group of fishing boats, or ski next to shore.
Case in point !! on Saturday, I went through the narrows to check out several spots up lake. There had to be 5 or 6 boats in the narrows that were fishing, so I slowed down, powered down, idled through so as not to swamp em, then when I got on the other side, powered back up and did my thing.
So when fishing the narrows myself, here came a big wake boat, had to have been fully loaded ( tanks full), pulling a board, on plane, throwing a Lake Powell Tour boat size wake, right up the middle of the narrows. I could have knocked the kid on the board off with a good cast they were that close, No consideration that everyone was getting bounced around by the wake. THEN the numbnuts, turned around and came back through. So what are they thinking ??? I would have chased em down, but I had my hands full with my only fish of the day, so they should count themselves lucky !!
I have been making the same suggestion to Parks for the past 20 years. Put a mag strip on the back of your parks pass, put readers on the gates and allow fisherman to get on the water at first light or before !! WE get pushed off the water by 10:30 or 11:00 on most waters due to the skiers and such. Waiting till 6:00 or 6:30 cuts a couple of hours off the time we have to enjoy fishing. Fat chance though !!
Beware the Big Red Skeeter !!!

yep -- and with an increase in aquatic invasive species, it is only going to get harder and harder to get your boat on the water.
Luckily for us, we camped at Eagle View. Our boats were beached overnight. So, Sunday morning we were on the water before any other boat. We had the whole lake to ourselves, for a short time.
The worst thing, however, is when those pesky anglers get in the way of our skiing. You should see those numbskulls sitting up in the narrows, just sitting there drifting along. They have no idea that they are in the prime skiing water!
We all want the prime time and prime spots. Too bad some people (both anglers and skiers - it's a two-way street) are inconsiderate of others.

Cool shots PBH. That kid could not look more frightend of that pike. Combing backcountry skiing and fishing is AWESOME.........nice to see that is a possibility for some during the summer months too.
Considering I love skiing so much it still kinda hard for me to believe that I have never tried water skiing before. Maybe next year when my knee is doing better.

well....sometimes it doesn't matter what you think. At my skill level, usually I'm thinking "oh shit. oh shit. oh shit"
I took a couple face-plants this weekend. The kids love it. Nothing better than watching dad wipe out!
