Snake River Near Jackson Hole
#1
Anyone have any experience fishing the Snake near Jackson Hole? I will be using a spinning rod and would like to know about what types of lures to use. Also, what are the chances of tying into a sturgeon there?

Thanks,

Jeff

I'm pretty sure there aren't any sturgeon in the Snake River in Wyoming. Have you been before? Certainly no one talking about or fishing for them. Nothing in the proclamation about them in there from memory anyways. I know the Missouri River drainages in Wyoming have an occasional sturgeon. Any lure that you catch trout elsewhere will work on the snake.

I haven't been fishing there yet but I'm going up this Sunday. The guys I'm going with go every year and they usually fish the Grey's River, a tributary to the snake near Alpine. Supposedly some nice cuts in there. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

LOL there are no sturgeon in that stretch of the Snake. Only found from Idaho Falls down stream to the Columbia. Ive been catching a ton of huge suckers that could pass as sturgeon as of late however!

I asked the same question a couple weeks ago, and got some great help here:

Unfortunetely, I wasn't able to go on the trip, so they didn't do any fishing, so new reports from me.

The snake itself was very fast, so we fished the Hoback River and nailed the cutts on purple Renegades and small black and gold rapalas. Thanks for the input guys.

[#502800]Did you mean Purple Prince Nymphs?[/#502800]
[#502800]I'm not familiar with a Purple Renegade....... Sounds kind of interesting...... I think I'll do a web search on that one.[/#502800]

Sturgeon do not exist anywhere above PaliSades Damn. There is no way for them to pass the turbines and PaliSades does not have an overflow. Not sure where your getting you information. That would be cool though if it were the case!

I have caught Mac's right below Jackson lake using an assortment of spoons.

Last time I was there a kid caught a huge sucker that was pushing 30 inches drowning worms.

You can catch Cutty's off spinners near the damn.

I also like the Gros Ventre river using spinners for Cutty's.
