Springfield report w/pics
#1
I arrived at Springfield lake around 12:45 very excited to finally fish some open water (other than a river). The fishing wasn't super hot but it wasn't slow either. I was just fishing from the shore so I probably could have done better had I brought my pontoon boat out. I ended up landing three, losing three right at the shore, and had way too many missed hits. All the fish were between 12" and 16", maybe 17". I don't want to say it was bigger than it was Smile. They were all caught on wooly buggers and leeches. I did lose one on a Hare's ear. I left at 3:30 or so to grab a bite to eat and headed over to the South Fork and did quite well. I am posting a separate report on that. Sorry the pictures aren't compressed, I am still figuring out how to do it.

Springfield is right by Springfield Idaho. I guess the closest big city would be blackfoot? This was my first time going out there. I don't know when I will be back though because there are so many still waters and rivers around here that I want to hit.

Well done. Springfield is one of those lakes that can be very difficult. I have never done incredibley well there, but the fish are usually big and fun to catch.

Blackfoot? I always thought it was between American falls and Pocatello.
From Chubbuck, we headed north then west then back east (allot of farm land) then west again to the town of Springfield. Coming back, we headed south, then south/east and were at American falls.

To me it more like it would be between AF and Blackfoot. But I have only been there once.

You are right it is between, but I would think Pocatello is a little closer ( although to the south). I know it is off Aberdeen Hiway. To look at a map it is slightly North and west of Fort Hall. The thing is from Chubbuck there are the small roads that cut more straight through.

Haha, thats why I put a ? It was my first time there and I was coming from Rigby. So I came through Blackfoot. Smile Blackfoot was a guess. google says blackfoot is 22 and American Falls is 31. Just depends which direction you are coming from i guess.

Absolutely...LOL I am down south, so a good point. Blackfoot would be a closer town for you, for me, it is out of the way.

Hey you guys, Springfield Res. is in my backyard so to speak. Fastest way to get there is drive up the interstate to Blackfoot. Get off the exit at Blackfoot and go under the overpass and head west going to Aberdeen. Approximately 20 miles or so west of Blackfoot you will see the reservoir on your left. It is between Blackfoot and Aberdeen. If you come up from Utah and go from Pocatello to American Falls and then to Aberdeen and then on to Springfield you have taken the long way around. If you do this you could then head over to Blackfoot when you are done and the interstate and then south and back to Utah but that would be the longest route. Someone mentioned taking shortcuts across country roads. You don't want to do that. The roads you would use are mostly winding and gravel roads and on the Shoshone Bannock Indian Reservation. You get lost out on a remote country road and you may be stopped by the tribal police and questioned as to your business and possibly cited for tresspassing. Stick to the interstate and stats roads, its quicker and you'll be fine. [Smile]

I agree, of course I come down from further up the valley (Idaho Falls) so your directions are right on DeeCee. I have fished there a few times and it has some fine fish. It is a small lake so hopefully the pressure won't get to be too much.

Okay? I don't recall any gravel roads, and really not that hard to follow.

Caught a big fella this morning at Springfield this morning from the shore using my Tenkara fly rod, about 19 inches long.
