Cutler Canyon Fall flotilla
#1
So I was just curious if there would be any interest in a fall ish flotilla down into the bowels of Cutler Canyon? May look to set this up around mid September (14th). We could take boats and / or tube/toons. Have a couple boats to drag the floaters back up out of there. I'll take my boat in case it's needed. I suspect the catfishing will be good and the fall colors should be started by then, plus it should still have water. Anyone interested? J

I might be interested Jeff but I'm not sure I want to take my new to me, boat unless I'm sure of the water levels. Is that pic of the area before the dam? I'm guessing you were ice fishing?

The water should remain fairly constant until the end of September and I think the bottom is soft if you do hit it, but I think if you're okay in Willard this should be as safe, just not clear so you won't see the bottom..

This picture is of the final stretch that goes west to the dam, and it was the crazy ice fish trip where we "hiked" the railroad tracks down to fish... (Okay we might have got there some other way, just not saying..) Shawdog nailed 3 cats that day it was a fun trip... Except for the train that came while we were on the tracks.. Anyway, hope you can make it, it was fun last time we tried the flotilla trip... I think we'll try a half day trip from early to noonish... I think we can troll this area and do well, may even pick up some eyes and bass while we are there. Keep in touch I'll try to get some updates... Later J

It's a good weekend for me! [cool]
Be glad to hop a ride, if there's space. Haven't had my widdle tug out for a while, but I've run it up there before, I could do it again (I think), specially with the buddy system.

Curt the travel from CJ launch up to the dam is a much more manageable depth, compared to where you ended up by the train tracks!! There are some hazards up by the cliffs, and some of the old dam/dock structures. But - stay to the middle, you're fine.

Don't think you'd have problems with the bridge, as long as you've got your Bikini down. [shocked]

John, sounds good. Plan on riding along if you'd like. Sorry it's not a nice boat like Curt's, but so far it still floats. Besides I need somebody to catch fish so I don't look too bad. Bring your bottom bouncer gear so we can slow troll for cat eyes. Also hoping the gravel beds will have some panfish and smallies. If I get organized, I'll try to set up a camp chef and we can cook up our catch and make fish tacos for the way home. Should have some good garden tomatoes to help make them even taste better. If I just could get some Asian Zing sauce from Buffalo Wild Wings we'll be in business. More later. J

Sounds like a great chance to try the motor when you'll have someone to pull ya out if needed. That would be great to meet ya and let me try and pry a few secrets out of ya. I've been impressed with your posts and will be good to meet outside the net. Hope it works out so you can be there. Later J

I seen a couple real nice cats come out of the canyon this spring. So maybe you can find a keeper down here on this trip. Look forward to seeing ya there. Thanks J

I think I can make it, if you don't mind a idaho boy tagging along. Will a 18 ' nitro make it where your going? Look forward to putting a face with a name.

Hey we'd love to have ya tag along. I think your boat will be fine, mine is a 16' trihull but it sits fairly deep and I don't have a problem hitting, but I do need to stick to the center until I get down a half mile or so. Once down a ways it get up past 20' deep. Should be fun to get to know everyone, I know we enjoyed the folks we met last time. One warning, it gets shallow fast if ya go upstream or east. Catch ya later J

I'd think it's more a matter of your running depth, or height that would be a limiting factor. Sorry my ignerz - is a Nitro a bass -boat?
The launch does have a dip at the end (powering on trailers, no doubt!) but once past the bridge - the middle should be fine.

Wonder if they'll drop some gravel at the ramps while the water's down? Hope so.

Jeff - love it. Sounds great. Appreciate that, I'll plan on bouncing some bottoms . . . likely some rigs for pitching curly tails and such too at the ledges and edges.
Hope you weren't implying to count on ME for catching! Might guarantee some mudcats, but . . . Maybe a bow for backup.
Got a bud who is hand carving some recurves. Got a taste end of last week, and I'm just drooling! Fraid it'll be to pretty to pull! But psyched all the same!

Sure appreciate you drumming up the idea, and TOTALLY STOCKED it falls on a good time. I don't dare miss it!

So the camp-chef? Thinking back at the launch, at the picnic areas, or maybe at the island along the way? Might be more fun if we did that! Be glad to pitch in with cookware, firewood, you name it! Of course nice to have "sides". A little potluck planning, could be cool!

My nitro is a fish and ski. Set up to bass fish. It is low profile and sits fairly shallow on the water. I have never fished cutler before, but always up for some new adventure

Yote, I like the island deal do you think there is enough room there? We can hammer out details as it gets closer, but sounds like a fun spot to tell tales and snag a bite to eat. May have to catch a few ahead of time so we don't go hungry if we rely on a good mornings catch. Got to run get a lesson ready but I'll catch up later. J
