I would pick Strawberry, there are no fish in Daniels...[:p]
Water levels are better at Berry though and the drought has taken a real tool on the smaller lakes.
Traffic isnt a problem for either.
Best of luck to ya what ever you pick.. really I would try both. You wont get much info on Daniels on this forum, so just go and see..

Another place that is near you and holds great potential is Lost Creek Res. This fishery has a slot limit in an attempt to get enough fish in the right size to control the chub population.

With rainbow, cutthroat and Tiger trout, it might be as good as any fishery within 100 miles of Ogden, if one considers the size of fish that come out of the reservoir during ice fishing season. (Search this forum for pictures from last winter at Lost Creek). I have found the fishing to be really good early in the year after ice out and again from about Labor Day (or when it starts to cool off like now), until it freezes.

Summer can be really tough. The elevation isn't that great and filling is by several small snow melt tributaries to Lost Creek and Lost Creek itself so the water warms and the fish go very deep in the summer. Posted hours of access to the reservoir are 6am-10 or 10:30 pm, so I can't comment on the night fishing.

Now if you want to dedicate some time there and do get it figured out for the warm weather period, let me know. Don't tell everyone else. It can be our secret. Hint: lots of crayfish, some rocky slide areas, some rock cliffs, and very little swallow, weed filled areas like Strawberry or Daniels.

This used to be a state park but the state of Utah transferred it back to Morgan County a few years ago. The dirt road that goes along the south and east shore of the reservoir is now gated and locked at the east end of the south arm of the reservoir. When that was open, one could drive to several points to launch a tube or pontoon boat. Now most try to launch at the boat ramp. Going from the boat ramp to the north end of the reservoir is over a mile. When windy, I won't attempt it without a motor.

Strawberry VS Daniels:

Traffic and/or travel time...

Stawberry traffic can get thick but there are several passing lanes on the way up the canyon. It is 60 to 65 mph the whole way once you get out of Heber. Which btw is a nice place to get something to eat or pick up an extra piece of gear you may have broken or hopefully wore out.

Once you leave the main road (i 40) you have somewhere between 1 and 25 minutes to your fishing area/hole. You can fish just off the main road (something I almost never do because I like to get away from the road noise) or travel all the way back to Renegade for upwards of 25 minutes depending on how fast you drive. But it is all paved all the way except the last one or two minutes and even then you're on a short and usually improved dirt road.

Daniels traffic is interstate until the last 30 minutes through the town. That should make the trip to Daniels faster but it depends on how fast you drive.

Camping: There is camping at both places but much more at Strawberry. Which usually makes Strawberry way more crowded. That's okay because Strawberry has way more area. It's just plain bigger and can support the extra traffic and extra fishing pressure.

Daniels to me feels considerably further from civilization. At no point can you here the high speed diesels, trucks, cars etc..

Quality of fish is best put as: it depends on where you fish Strawberry and how well you fish Daniels. Both have big fish but I think there are many more fish at The Berry. And many more big fish to boot.

There are parts of Strawberry that are very similar to Daniles but my vote goes to Strawberry every time. It may seem corny but I support my state. When everything is nearly equal I choose to fish in Utah for economical reasons as much as anything else. It is more money to fish Daniels just in having to buy a fishing license for ID. I only fished this year because some of us from BFT went to Henrys Lake and I hit Daniels on the way home.

So I am a bit biased but not to the point I am choosing a lesser fishing/camping destination. So I would fish/camp Strawberry and see if there is something you don't like about it. If something about the place or people bugs you buy a three day fishing license and fish Daniels. If you fall in love with Daniels and many on here have then buy an annual license and fish there.

I think it is hard to compare the two. Daniels can be awesome ,but just does not have the variety of trout ,or different areas to fish like Strawberry. I fish several lakes in Idaho, and Montana every year, and none of them have anything over on Strawberry. If I had to pick just one it would be Strawberry every time.
