So my buddy and I just hit up Hyrum reservoir yesterday. We were catching the usual Rainbows, Small mouths and Perch that we always do when I caught a small Tiger trout (8 inches or so). I didn't know they even had them in there. I researched a little bit and found that apparently the reservoir is supposed to have Brown's (which I have heard before but never caught one) Catfish and Bluegill. How often do people on here actually catch any Browns, Bluegill and Catfish because I would really enjoy some Catfish fishing up here?

Smallmouths? You sure - I've only known LM at Hyrum.
Rainbows - for sure, planted by the gazillions, perch - ups and downs, there's bluegill, - know Tigers were planted - haven't met one myself, though we did see the planted schools around the docks (5-inchers) some years back. Browns are there - when they want to be. I've even heard of Kokanee being caught.
Heard rumors of Catfish either back when, or maybe below the spillway. But I've never thought to target them there. I go for Cutler cats, or along the Bear. Do ok once in a while. Nothing like loading the smoker with Kitty, or some Brined up Trout filets! Hmmm. Falls a good time!
Ever go ice fishing there?

I think people really have a hard time telling the difference for some reason. I've heard many reports of smallmouth in Newton and many of the Idaho ponds. I'm not sure if people think that small largemouth are smallmouth or what. As far as I know, the only places with smallmouth in the area are the ones in the Bear River drainage. Well, Condie had a few that had ended up in there somehow, but they were few and far between, and they're likely dead now.

You're right, they were large mouths. All of the ones I have caught have been really small, so couldn't really tell. I have been ice fishing there, but I only catch rainbows on the ice season. So does Cutler have much land fishing or is it mostly boat?

That would have been interesting. I started fishing it about 4 years ago, so they were largely gone when I started there I think. I was really curious as to how the crappie would do in Condie as they were getting bigger, but I'm guessing they're pretty well gone now too. Oh well, some bass, gills and perch did survive, so hopefully it can recover quickly.

Ha, welcome to the forum. You've learned your first lesson! Always the truth (well, except when it ain't! [:p])
I joke, as I've shared the challenge of "is it a LM or SM". Sometimes the colors are obvious, but not always. They appear to respond to the water conditions. There's some spots where I run into both, and then it's more obvious. Smallies almost seem brown, and more mottled or stripy patterns. They sure can fight like heck!
In a good year, I've found messes of Perchies under the ice at Hyrum.
As for Cutler - there are a number of shore-access spots. Though some get a pretty fair amount of traffic/pressure. There's quite a few areas around the Benson Marina - that can hold some fish. Up by the Cache Junction launch, and bridge also. Along Valley View as well. I've done best when I could get away from the crowds, and pressure - and get back to float-accessible locations.
Number of spots along the Bear river - feeding into Cutler - that can hold various varieties. Bass/Crappie/Cats/Walleye - and other panfish. Oh, and plenty of carp.
I could share more, but some - I don't like to over-advertize.
Largemouth

Smallmouth - more brown/mottled. Often a red eye, and the mouth doesn't extend past the eye.

e most will laugh at you wanting to troll it. But I had an incredible year of it so I'll let em laugh. Just hoping the drain on Monday won't ruin it. I sure wanted one more trip before they pulled the plug, but it doesn't look likely. Good luck. J
