So what does this mean exactly??

Here is a quote from this weeks DWR weekly fishing report.

BIRCH CREEK RESERVOIR: (October 11) One of our technicians stopped by the reservoir on Oct. 5. There were signs posted, notifying visitors that Birch Creek Reservoir has been closed by the Bureau of Land Management due to the recent government shutdown.

There are no facilities other than a outhouse, no ramps no picnic areas, just a steep trail and a puddle of water. Does this mean I can't fish it or even be there? Will I be ticketed? By who, DWR, local police, secret BLM ninjas? I know that there has been a lot of talk about Forest Service maintained boat ramp's and such, but this is first that I have read of shutting down an entire reservoir.

My thoughts exactly. I fished a reservoir in the National Forest last week with the 2 entry gates locked shut. There was even a Forest worker driving around the dam and getting out to adjust things. He drove next to me and didn't say a word. If you're not using any facilities I'd go ahead and fish it. Who's going to enforce what? I'm getting ready to drive south and fish a reservoir in the forest without any facilities. Certainly not going to let some sign stop me from fishing after a couple hour drive.

[#502800]I've seen some pretty good bucks while I have been fishing there. Maybe it will have an effect on the hunt.[/#502800]
[#502800]Just some employees doing their job, whether they agree or not.[/#502800]
[#502800]Maybe the gov. can buy out the BLM, but then they might have to fight a forest fire.[/#502800]

Ya I don't much wanna hear political opinions, I've already got my own. I was just curious as to why I can't fish in a pond of water that has no maintained facilities and is on public land. And furthermore who will enforce this,as the enforcers should be out of work for now.
I can almost ( I say almost ) understand how they can shut down a boat ramp or picnic shelter, but a whole lake including foot traffic on the shore?
Will I actually be ticketed??? And if so by who??

The sherrif and ALL of his deputies are very conservative and view this shutdown of federal lands as a joke. They won't ticket you(coming from a deputy I spoke with). Enjoy the solitude and practice a little civil disobedience! The fishing is pretty decent there right now. And as was already pointed out, the forest service employees that you see posting these signs are just doing their jobs, but are as pissed as the rest of us about it! They don't want to be fired though so they unhappily do their job and post these areas.

I'll try to talk to the sheriff in the morning, his truck is home right now and all the lights are off, he must be getting rested up for night shift.

Enough of this crap, you said it was pretty good right now, I ain't been in a couple of weeks, has the fall tiger bite turned on???

Caught two this morning in about an hour of fishing. Home made #2 blade panther Martin knock offs. 18 and 19 inches. Only hits I had, but didn't have enough time to give it a full effort. I don't fish it often so I can't really testify as to if that counts as the fall biteWink
