Firehole (FG), North Platte (Miracle Mile), Yampa (CO)
#1
A Buddy and I went on a road trip to pick up a hunting dog that I purchased.

Firehole: The water level is down at least 5 feet from where it was at in the winter. We couldn't find any burbot from shore that wanted to play. We left around midnight without a single bite.

North Platte: The miracle mile is a fine stretch of river. My buddy was throwin' a big ol'e scuplin streamer and hooked into some nice fish, but nothing huge. I was nymphin' the bottom and caught a bunch of average fish (10-12''). There were quite a few people towards the afternoon on the river (Wading and Drift boats). Everyone was catching fish, even though the fishing was kind of slow. In the evening I switched to a gold panther martin and it was the ticket. If I could keep it off the bottom, then I hooked a fish. We left at Dark for Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Yampa: We woke up early to fish the Yampa and it proved to be dead. Fish didn't want anything we were throwing. It might have been too cold. I have a fleece wader bottom under my 3mm neoprene with thick wool socks and my legs were still cold. It was a really beautiful place to fish.

We picked up the pup and headed out of town and were hoping to hit the green below FG, but we took too much time in Steamboat. So we just headed home.

It was a great trip and 10/10 would do it again.

Ps. Sorry about the pics, we should have taken more. I need to get a go pro one of these days, so I don't have to fear dropping my phone into the drink

Sounds like a fun trip, is the pup a German short hair/wire hair? Looks just like one I use to have.

Yes, it is. Haha I prefer GWP, because I am not sure how to pronounce drahthaar.

I hunted pheasants behind a pair of those a couple years ago, much fun! Weird thing was they actually trained them in German!

It's pronounced "draw-tar" if I'm not mistaken

drahthaar's are the best pheasant dogs ever. I've had mine for 6 years now and would never own anything other than another one as long as I hunt birds. Great choice. They also love the water and are great for waterfowl.

I hope so. I have taken him out to cutler a few times and he always finds something (ie. Dead fish, dead bird, dead mouse) Always has his noise to the ground.

Maybe that is why he is having trouble listening sometimes. I need to speak to him in his native Tongue. [Tongue]
