smaller and high elevation lakes and ponds in the Uintas are usually fishable by the end of November. I icefished Starvation last winter on December 27th.

There is usually safe ice by Thanksgiving at a couple of higher elevation lakes, Like Scofield and Huntington.
Most lakes are fishable by Christmas Eve though. Even the lower lakes.

I take my kiddos between Christmas parties every 25th and fish off the docks at Utah lake. We always kill it and most years I have to kick holes in the ice to do it. Flaming gorge is always frozen by then. Usually safe ice is right around the confluence that time of year. Christmas break at lost dog has become a Holliday tradition for my dad brothers and I.

If your up for the drive, I always start the ice season at Henry's lake usually right before turkey day. Always makes for an awesome start to the hard deck season.

I'll perhaps ice fish 2 more times in the season, then I can't wait for the crap to melt!

I hear this site is a therapy group for the seriously addicted. But it doesn't have a very good recovery rate. Good luck. J

We're all just a bunch of enablers. Like giving vodka to the alcoholic- yeah it's fine go fish (or drink) and don't worry about it[laugh].

Fish Lake doesn't usually have fishable ice until Christmas. I haven't been up there recently, but we've had pleasant weather here in Richfield until the last couple of days when we have received a bit of rain/snow/cold weather.

Yup I think you have to want to recover if its going to work. Anyway back on topic, the water temp at Hyrum was still 50 to 52 degrees last Friday so it has a ways to go before it freezes over. Last year Hyrum tacked up within a couple days of Mantua so until real cold gets here keep your long poles out. Later J

I'm excited for ice fishing! Sportsman's Warehouse has a $50 off coupon for online orders over $250 that ends tomorrow, so I just bought the Eskimo Quickfish 6 that I have been meaning to upgrade to. After tax and free in store pickup it ended up being $256, not too bad. If anyone is looking for a nice starter ice tent, I would be willing to part with my Eskimo Quickfish 3 at a good price.

Christmas seems like a long ways out. But, I'm going to circle it on my calendar anyway. Thanks for the info. This is a great site!!

I think I'll hook the Heppy Hooker to the truck and head to Powell this weekend. That sounds nice.
