[:/]Hello at my last fishing adventure one of the leader rings for the line broke of It was a Shakespeare ugly stick a had used this rod 3 times so imagine my disappointment on it breaking so easily.
I fish mostly in lakes, like to fish for trout cat fish, kokanee, I live in Utah.
I saved the reel so just need a new rod and would like a good back up rod[Image: bobwink.gif]

You could opt to have the guide replaced for bout $12-15... if a new rod is what you are after the abu garcua veritas rods are awesome! Great selection of sizes and actions!

You can get that line guide replaced for a few dollars at a decent tackle shop.

Look at the Okuma line of rods for a replacement. Good rods at an affordable price.

[#0000FF]Don't know where you live but if you would like to bring the rod by my "tackletorium" I will wrap a new guide on for free. Might even have a suitable backup rod left in the "Fishing 101" stash.

I live in the west valley area of Salt Lake. Shoot me a PM if you would like me to fix your rod and I will get you my address and directions.

My suggestion is to get the guide fixed and have a spare rod. Then go buy a 40-60 million modulus Graphite rod in the length you like and you will never ever think about using your old fiberglass one again[Smile]
That is just my thought.... Fishon

I love glass[Smile] And Ugly is only partially glass[Wink]
I agree however. Higher modulus means more sensitive which can help.

return it to sportsmans and upgrade to high modulus graphite rod! You will be very happy with the more sensitive lighter rod

I have had several ugly sticks over the years and there is a time and place for glass... mainly leaning in the corner at the house[Smile] But seriously for me 3/4 of the fun in fishing is feeling the thump of a bite and using an ugly stick you loose 90% of that so for me it is all graphite. If your partner puts your rods in the trash compactor or garbage disposal often I would stick with Ugly Stick.[Wink] Fishon

Ugly stick has a decent warranty, but all i use one for is to keep in the back of the car and if something happens to it oh well. I have the abu veritas and it is a great rod. I have some extra rods if you would like one you can have it, it going to be used but still in decent shape. I live in ogden if you decide you want one.

Sandra, Ugly Sticks may be tough but they are really pretty poor rods. Go look at Scheels and check out some of their brand. They have some great rods from $29 to $149. Any of their rods carry a great warrantee. You break it or it fails in any way, bring it back and they replace it. I think their rods are even better than Cabelas.

SW had a Quantum QX36 for less than $30.

It's lightweight, sensitive, and cheaper than an Ugly.

I've bought three of them on purpose (broken by my own clumsiness). They're great.

The only thing that compares in my book are the Berkely Lightning rods, which are even lighter and more sensitive, but a little more $.

After that, you end up paying a lot for a decent rod.

+1 on the Lightning Rods.

For the money a Lightning Rod is hard to beat. I've been using them since I was a teenager. I have a MediumLight I bought a few years ago and a Medium action I bought off of TubeDude recently. Both are excellent. In fact, the one I bought from TD is one of the older models that has the old gold, tan, and black color scheme and I plan on getting a lot more "miles" out of it. They are a great rod with a sensitive tip and good backbone. Good for wrestling cats or perch jerkin', in my never to be humble opinion. Don't forget to check prices online. I bought a newer one from Bass Pro Shops and they had knocked them down to 34.99 (not a huge amount off the regular price) but were offering free shipping.

Sandra,
Have Ugly Sticks in various weights and lengths, and have given them to my kids as gifts in the past. Have a U.S. Ultra Lite 4' with a small reel and 4 lb test I use at Mantua for the Blue Gill and Perch. I love it. Very sensitive and when you get a slab sized Blue Gill on the hook on that pole, feels like you hooked one of the trucks going by on 89. Only ever had one problem with ugly stick rods. Had the end tip guide come off of one I had just purchased for my daughter. I went to the Shakespeare web site because I didn't have the purchase receipt for the store, and Shakespeare took my address and sent me a whole new rod, free, and a nice tackle bag along with it. Ugly Sticks my not be the best top end rods, but with limited finances and their good customer service, I have no complaints.
