Strawberry for the first time
#1
Having never been to Strawberry fishing I figured some of you might have some pointers on what to expect or maybe some advice about best place to launch my 17' lund on Sunday or any hazards any of you know about. I know it is cold in the morning. Is it best to be there at first light and on the water early or does it matter that much? I have researched a ton on this site and and its very informational but for lately have most of you been using down riggers or doing better just finding fish and jigging through them?? I have the basic stuff that catches fish most places.. A decent amount of Rapalas and tube jigs in all colors is there anything else that I shouldnt leave home with that you guys think make the big difference?(Spinners or daredevils) I have also read that alot of fish have been caught in 45 FOW is that the bottom depth or are they suspended over deeper water?? How deep is strawberry? My plan right now is to launch at strawberry marina and go south towards Haws and fish east of there or anywhere around Haws that I find fish. That is unless any of you suggest a better place to start

Thanks in advance

Lilfish,
I have had good luck recently fishing with my spinning outfit using a bright orange dodger with a night crawler on a 24" leader. I troll and let out about 150 feet of line.
On my most recent 2 trips I landed 51 and 35 respectively. My largest was a 19 1/2" Cutt and an 18" Bow. They are feeding on the top right now and it should be good.

I Troll Rapalas 100 to 200 ft behind the boat @ 1 1/2 to 2 mph, most any color or size.
I like the black silver white jointed 3 inch.
Got 34 5 days ago across from haws all but 2 where 15 to 20 inchs, a mix of cuts and bows.
Good luck, let us know how you do.

get there at 7:30 AM every one has a different way of fishing. put a worm on every thing you fish with. I have got more fish with a downrigger and leaded core line ( all big fish ) got 100 fish when water temp was 52 deg. when water temp was 48 had Two 60 plus
days. you get tired of catching fish. Three polls out three fish on at the same time.

Lilfish,
I troll right behind the boat. I don't use planer boards. I troll at 1.5 miles per hour and that seems to be the right speed. My fish finder says .8 mph but my hand held GPS
is more accurate at 1.5 mph. I keep the drag loose so when they hit hard they can run with it and take some line. I watch the motion of the rod tip and if it varies just a little I know a fish is "playing" with the night crawler and I can give it a little line and tease it until I can set the hook. I fish with two poles so it can get exciting with two fish on the lines.
Good luck when you go. I agree with the guy who says add a worn to anything you put in the water. It flat out works.
