Hyrum condition check?
#1
Hey, I want to hit Hyrum tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had been catching any browns there lately? If so, are you willing to let out any tips??? PM or other wise... I have been wondering if the Strawberry technique would work on browns as well as the cutts? Any bass or perch stories lately? I know the bows will play, but have you found a way to coax the bigger fish into nailing it? Thanks for the input.... J

The fishing is good on the bottom using worms from shore. The rainbows gut the hooks. Perch are also hitting worms on the bottom. I only hit it for an hour, but its easy fishing.

I fished it last weekend. Got there late at about 9am and caught plenty of rainbows. Tried for bass for about 30 min before giving up. I got one quick strike but no hookup. Found perch on sonar and had a few nibbles but they didn't seem as playful as they usually do.

Thanks for the update, any size to the perch? If they are over 8" I might try them, if not I'll stick to the bows... Were you down by the boat ramp? or SW corner? Thanks J

I'm still trying to figure out how to identify perch on my graph, what characteristics help you to recognize perch on the graph? Are they big bunches of fish close to the bottom, or how do you tell? I do have an older graph so it might not have the capability to tell... Thanks J

I'm actually using my Marcum ice flasher in my boat. I just look for somewhat deep water with lots of activity in the bottom couple feet. I have a spot that perch stay pretty consistently. If you're interested, feel free to PM me for more info on the spot.

Welcome to the site. Do you ice fish Hyrum too? I've had my best ever perch adventures on that lake, with a camera, under ice. Fun stuff!

Ever find the Tigers there?

Okay thanks, I don't find many perch over 8" but I keep hoping to catch some big enough to be worth my time to fillet. I'm a slow filleter. Thanks for the info. Just heading out the door to go give'em a try. Later J

Thanks. I love ice fishing Hyrum. I bet it's fun to watch them on camera. We will be out on the hard deck in less than 2 months!

I haven't found the tigers or even the browns at hyrum, but now that I have a boat I want to get out there more. Hyrum was my go to lake this summer from the shore.

Hey Skunked, check out the 2 Perch WH2 posted from WB today. Bot 12" or more and the one I weighed was 15 oz. They were nice healthy fat ones.

Wow that's trophy fish for Utah these days. I love seeing nice fish show up. Thanks for the referral, I hadn't seen the story yet. I hit Cutler this morning hoping for a good day, but it was pretty slow. Got 2 crappie and two LMB. Crappie was 11-12" and bass about the same maybe 13". The cooler water and low level has really thrown off my spots so I'm hoping to find fish sometime. Good luck. J

Try a 3" Maniac Minnow in Changeable Craw rigged on a 1/8 oz swim head.
