Strawberry confession

It has been many days since I've fished on strawberry. In fact I've only been out there once this year and burned out a bearing on my trailer wheel. Fun day though. Planning on roughing it in the snow on Monday and wondering if anyone has any ideas or advice.

I will be using an 18 1/2ft aluminum boat with 150hp outboard and trolling motor.

I was planning on starting at the marina and heading east to the far shore. Thought I would try some trolling with tube jigs tipped with worms, maybe some rapallas.

Or perhaps just jigging and drifting with 3 inch tube jig white with the worm tip.

Are they biting all day long or do I need to go at the crack of dawn?

Are worms better or is chub meat preferred, or chub minnows?

I was planning on arriving at noon and fishing the afternoon away. Does it sound like it'll work or am I going to be wasting my time?

From all reports I've been reading it sounds like a super-duper Duper Duper time to fish.

Somebody tells me the fish go absolutely crazy when it starts to snow, is that true? Am I going to be getting so many I won't be able to pull them all in? Here's hoping.

The best advice is to change lures/tactics until you get hits. Don't stay with something that isn't working.

Drive a few miles past Strawburnt and catch some fun, hard fighting Starvation Steelhead. Use the same stuff as Strawberry but expect some real tugs on your line. Much better eating than Strawberry cutts and far better sport!

You do realize, Strawberry has "steelhead" [crazy] too. In fact I have caught way more bows than Cutts.

It is said to be windy on that day, and to cross that lake with wind and snow, you mite want to re-think..[crazy]

I was up there the other day and got them along the shore west of the boat ramp..

But if you get to the lake and see big waves go to Starvation for the bows...

i think if your looking for 20 plus inch fat bows no need to drive past deer creek save the gas deer creek bows are the the best tasting trout in the state and fight better then any others ive found and over an hour closer to home !!!!

How do you fish Deer Creek? can you get a 20 ft. I/O boat in the water?

Yes! I also recommend you fish Deer Creek and avoid Starvation [].

And now for the report. We went down to renegade and zigzagged all over the place to the east and slightly north of the ramp. We trolled around a bit looking for fish watching for them to jump. We stopped frequently to jigg and to see if there were any fish around. We would catch one or two every once in a while and ended up with around 15 between the three of us. 4 were Nice rainbows and we kept them. But the cutthroats we let go, they were all in the slot.

We also tried around the entrance of the Narrows and then back by the marina to the west of the marina to the south and west of the marina and pretty much didn't catch anything in that area.

I was hoping for a much bigger day of quantity fishing but oh well that's strawberry for you. I'm guessing it might've been getting too cold but that's just me. The water was about 44° down to 42° depending on where we were.

Outside air temperature was around 17 when we started at 8:30 and got up to around 29 when we left around noon.
