lake mead

After a month finally gonna head back out to camp, instead of doing kingman as usual, I'd like to try a different spot, somewhere where I can get in a car hopefully. If anybody could give me a spot, not even a secret spot, that would be great!

Government wash.
You can drive to the water, even with a car.

Ya but the Sad thing bout gov wash is your gonna have to clean all the dirty diapers and bud light cans from your camp site first. Most ''people'' that go there are slobs and don't give a rats ass about the lake and leave their trash everywhere. With all the money they bring in charging to enter the lake you would think it would get cleaned up.

Stewarts point and echo bay are way nicer and less crowded. in my opinion.

Government Wash would be great if it wasn't for the above mentioned trash piles.... and let me add to that list the idiots who pull their vehicles 5 feet next to where you're fishing and then proceed to blast their music until 4am, the ignorant jet skiers who speed through the coves making it impossible to fish, and let's not forget the geniuses who think its ok to let their dogs roam free off their leashes ( 9 times out of 10 they will be pitbulls)

Best time I ever had at Government Wash was during the Shutdown - not a person in sight!

You might want to try crawdad or 8 mile if your car can make it, it's usually not as bad as govt wash.

yeah I'd say crawdad cove is a good bet. I usually have a good time out there and there is enough room out there that you don't get crowded out. late at night the coyote's come in close! one night I was sleeping in the bed of my truck, I woke up and there were about 5 or 6 right next to my truck. kinda spooky but cool too . they all scattered as soon as I sat up in the truck. Might as well go back to Kingman. We were offshore on Friday and a few smallmouth are biting about 20 to 30 ft

I've heard a lot about govt wash, but the thing is if I go there tonight it won't be till around 8, and I'm unfamiliar with it, I fish the point of the left cove at kingman wash, I've only had great luck there once with about 60+ stripers, the last time I was out there I was hooked up with something I would assume decent size because I have 8lb on a ugly stick and my pole was snapped after about 3 seconds of fighting it! I tried chumming and I don't seem to have much luck, any tips on how I can bring sone in? Or atleast good chumming tricks?thanks. Greatly appreciated!

If you snaped your line the drag was too tight or the line was bad. Chum with corn, Sardines or Anchovies. Learn the ways of the jig-head and light line.

I'll tell you one thing...
If your ugly stick snapped before 8lb line did then it got stomped and snapped long before that fish hit...

Hey I have had a med/heavy action 8ft ugly stick snap upon casting a 1oz lead out.

but then again the rod was pretty old and had been used in saltwater for many years.[fishon]

I have never had a pole snap on me from a fish. However, I have someone step on one and break it. On a different note, I was down at Government Wash for a few hours yesterday. I caught six small striper in the last 30 mins I was there and saw the larges school of shad running from the striper. The school had to have been 50 feet long. I just wish I had brought a casting net for them. D,oh!!
