Where are all the Strawberries?
#1
My 11 year old daughter Kylee and I headed up to Strawberry on Saturday to fish the Berry. Kylee hadn't ever been to the Berry and was excited to go as this would most likely be her last fishing trip of the year with it getting cold. She told her Mom that she would bring her home some fish and some strawberries for Sunday dinner.

We got the lake right as the sun was coming up. It was cold but not too bad. As usual Kylee was excited to get out on the water and paddle around.

It was pretty slow for the first couple hours and all I had were a couple hits that I missed. Kylee started to get a bit cold and hungry so we went back to the truck for lunch. After lunch she decided to sit in the truck for a while and I went back out and fished within sight of the truck. After a while I saw Kylee get out of the truck and start looking around the shore and kicking over rocks. I paddled back in and asked her what she was doing. She relpied, "Dad im looking for all the strawberries" [Image: icon_smile.gif]

She decided to come back in the water with me and we tied our pontoons together so we could talk and fish together. I'll tell you there is no better way to spend an afternoon fly fishing than kicking slowly in a kickboat sitting next to my daughter talking about everything from why couldn't you use beef jerky to catch fish to what her favorite music groups are. A great day just talking to my daughter.

After a while we started getting into some fish. Kylee had a hard time detecting the strikes so I would hook them and then she would reel them in.

We didn't catch a lot of fish but the ones we caught were pretty big. Kylee had a great time with the hard fighting rainbows.

We kept a couple to take home to Mom for Sunday dinner. We couldn't find any strawberries though [Image: icon_smile.gif].

The big fish of the day was this 21 in rainbow that gave us a good fight. He made several runs on Kylee that had her reel screaming. She was laughing and giggling the whole time.

All in all another very enjoyable day fishing with my daughter.

Nice report. I agree nothing like a day on the water with just you and one of your children. I get that opportunity every now and then so I grab it when I can.

Were you just north and west of the Renegade boat ramp for much of the day?

Wasn't us. We spent the day at Jakes Bay (Chicken Creek East).

The world would be a better place if more dads took their daughters fishing.

Your day was the best part of my day! My daughter and I were trolling flies in Jake's Bay in a boat and passed you and your daughter. The giggles and squeals when she caught one of her fish had us in stitches! My daughter is 20. She started the same way your daughter started - tied to dad's pontoon and chucking a fly. You have a lot to look forward to! I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it is when a daughter says, Dad, what are you doing today - can we go fishing? That's how my Saturday began. I suspect you'll have a few of those in your future! Well done!

What a great report! The only thing that beats taking my kids and grandkids fishing is going with just my wife. She squeals a lot too.

I was at Strawberry Saturday with a friend and his 11 year old son. We were in my boat and trolling in Strawberry Bay. His dad hooked a fish right off using a rainbow rapala and I knew we were in for a good day. His son and I were using dodgers and nightcrawlers and it took us a little while to find the fish but when we did it was great. We trolled eastward and westward along the south shore of the bay and averaged over 8 fish an hour. When we started catching fish on the dodgers his dad changed to dodgers also and we had doubles on several times and triples once. It was challenging to land three fish and not get your lines tangled. When I hooked a fish I let the kid land it and he was busy all day.
His son had a goal to catch 50 fish and when we left at 2:30pm we we counted 52. Mostly Cutts but we did land about a dozen nice Bows.
They will remember this day for a long time. It is awesome to see a youngster get
Hooked" on fishing.

Now that's good report! Fun pictures too.

I spend all the time I can fishin' with my gkids. I've got a whole "boatload" of them hooked pretty good. Lost one a few years ago when he was hit by a car while walking home from a friends house. I spent a lot of time on the water with him -- he's gone but the memories cannot be taken away from me.

Again, great repot!
