I'm new to the forum so take it easy on me please. Just wondering if it is too late to get out to Strawberry to fish from shore later this week or should I wait for the ice fishing? Any suggestions where to try from the shore, I used to go there as a kid but it all seems a bit different out there as far as land markings. thanks in advance

Sorry man to break the news but I went to strawberry on Thursday and fishing was slow caught only one 16" rainbow. Talked to many float tubers they said it was really slow as well those float tubers talk too the boaters and the same story. If you really want to go ice fishing uinta mountains is your best bet.

That's the first slow report I've heard from Strawberry in months. I'd hit it from shore if you have the chance.

Strawberry is one of those places where the weather can have HUGE effects on the fishing. I usually try to hit it at least once or twice a week from shore and even if it's 2 days in a row with the same spot and presentation it can be a night and day difference. just remember that the fish like the cold and the cuts will be prowling in pretty shallow water trying to bulk up for winter.
Heading just into a storm or out of a storm the fishing usually ( not a golden rule but quite often) heats up and then dies as the fish move deeper for (shelter?) I'm sure tubedude would know why, but since I doubt fish are worried about getting wet it probably has more to do with temp, barometric pressure or wind stirring up the water.[crazy]
As far as if it's worth a shot I'd say go for it! Try some white tubes tipped with worm or chub or is you're more of a cast and wait kinda guy then minnow or worm below a bobber is a good place to start.
If you don't have any success try changing up the speed of your retrieve or changing spots. One thing is for sure about the berry, those Cutts run in schools and are really competitive so be flexible, and once you get them dialed in there will be some good times ahead[fishin]
.
If you're looking for dinner, with the rainbows from shore though it's hard to beat good old fashioned Powerbait. Kind of anti climactic, but hey! If it works it works.[laugh]
Good luck up there, and let us know how you do.

The storms can and usually affects the fishing but only for a day or two. Dont let the cold worry you. My favorite tradition the past 10 years has been a thanksgiving morning float. I have some banner days up there on thanksgiving. That is usually the last time I hit it before the ice. If shore fishing, try the steeper banks on the solider creek side. Use a white tube tipped with some flavor or your choice, chub or worm, and cast out and slowly retrieve it back. This is the time of year you get BIG cutts cruising shallow and you will most likely see fish take your jig and sometimes only feet from the bank. Good luck.

Sorry, my directions are bad up there because I am usually on a boat. To the right of the ramp if you were looking down it, we killed up up there in the shallows!

I agree. Saw a group of about 5 move over there within view of the ramp. They were slamming them. Funny this was I too expected them shallow, but 40 to 50' and hang on! It was great. I would get one or two and the guys on the shore would do the same. Turned into a game.

I think that this time of the year is the very best time of the year to bank fish. This is the time of the year when the water temps around the banks are FINALLY low enough for big trout to survive and thrive in. All summer long, they are better suited in deeper water that is much cooler than edge water temps.
Yes ... there will be down days (for what ever reasons) but for the most part, this time of year is the best time of year to cast from the bank.
Well, except for one other time ... ice off.
So go ... take your chances ... much better odds than gambling in Vegas.

Get up there now. I fished from shore last week caught about 12 before noon. Mixed cutts and bows. Couple of keepers for the BBQ.
