Alright those of you who are still praying for good ice, just quit it! The temperatures are way too low now. -20 at my house (5220 ft elevation) this morning and it will probably drop a few more degrees before the sun comes up. -27 up in Island Park. If it isn't frozen now, it never will be.
Last year on Dec 13th I was still floattubing on some spring ponds. Too dang cold to go fishing now, so let it warm up a bit would you! I get crabby without my fishing fix!!
edit: -25 7am

I did, and it drills holes great, but the blood freezes in my veins in this weather! I know....I'm a wimp!! I was hoping to get out this week sometime. A nice Idaho breeze combined with these temps and my body says it's just not fun.

Two best investments.. Auger.. sounds like you got.. Shanty.. no more breeze, plus nice and toasty inside. [cool]

I can't use a regular catalytic heater, so I would have to modify a shanty to take a vented stove. Then I would have to haul a tent, stove, propane, auger etc. I do have a sled, but I think I would be frozen solid by they time I got the tent etc out on the lake and up.
I like a bit warmer temps, and I am sure I will give it a try again. Above freezing and I will probably be too tempted to just fish a river!!

I like doing the "shore lunch" on the Ice. Nothing like pan fried fillets, fries, and HOT SAUCE!!! Helps keep the cold away and passes the time waiting for the fish to bite.
Other days, when fishing gets serious, Chowder... cause I ain't got time to watch the fryer.
Fishing is more than just catching a fish on a hook [crazy]
It's a way of life

So many come backs for that one. All in jest of course. [ ]
1. It only hurts for a little while.
2. No pain no gain.
3. It will feel better when it quits hurting.
4. Hurts soooooo good.
I'll bet if I had time, I could come up with several more.
Truth is, I have to agree with you. I can handle the cold, no problem. Cold and wet, or cold and windy, not so much. I just got back from over there and we had trouble starting 3 of the trucks as well as both ATV's (which were useless by the way).

I like number 3
but on second thought,
Me using that phrase, being 6'3" "big guy" if someone wouldn't fall over and cower for no apparent reason?

Yea i have to agree the wind will cut right threw you and even tho you have windproof gear its so hard to keep your hands and face warm. you need a permanent shack with r30 in the walls

Took about 20 minutes to get them running. Had to jump start them off the truck. Then I took the one with the good tires down to lake. Made it no problem. Couldn't get back up to the cabin/parking area. Deepish snow combined with difficult snow conditions and I just couldn't get there. Had to walk along side, trying to run the throttle while pushing without getting sucked into a tire. Then I had to use the winch to get up the last 100 feet or so. With the difficulty in starting, I didn't dare leave them on the ice over night where I couldn't jump start them, so I just bagged it. It wasn't that far from the cabin to the water.

I hear you. Snow blower wouldn't start, washing machine water line froze up on me, twice. This winter is already pissing me off, and it's still technically fall for a little longer. I sure hope this isn't the norm for this winter. I had enough of it in January.
