Did that new regulation get passed that in 2014 you won't need a two pole permit because they are raising the price of fishing/combination permits? If so will that apply to permits sold in 2013 that don't expire until mid 2014? Or will it only apply to permits sold in 2014? I am asking because I haven't bought a two pole permit this year yet, but I don't want to pay the $15 for one if in 3 weeks I won't need it anymore. I definitely need two poles for ice fishing.

You'll need to buy a second pole permit. Regulations are for new licenses purchased after the New Year.

$26 for a license, and $15 for a second pole permit = $41

I remember when we discussed this a while back, that the cost of the fishing license was going to increase in 2014. Does that start Jan 1st or July 1st?

This is copy/pasted from the 2014 proclamation.
Possible changes to license fees
In August 2013, the Utah Wildlife Board passed a number of proposed changes to Utah’s fishing and hunting license fees.
The Utah Legislature will consider those proposed changes when it meets in early 2014. If lawmakers approve changes to the license fees, those changes may go into effect on July 1, 2014.
Please visit wildlife.utah.gov after June 1, 2014 for more information about whether the license fees will be changing.

Thanks, makes sense that it would all take place at the same time.

Kinda weird doing the change in July. I know you buy a 365 day license, but Most I imagine will already have licenses by July and for that second pole, already paid that extra $15.
Guess if you can wait...[laugh]

The reason for this is the State of Utah's fiscal year runs July to June. The legislature meets the 4th Monday in January and runs for 45 consecutive days. The changes for fees require legislative approval, and those proposals happen during the general session. Most of the new laws / changes go into effect July 1.
I see what you are saying though. From the way it looks, IF you buy your fishing license and second pole permits at different times , you will pay more until the full transition to the new license is complete.

I always buy a license on my birthday in February. I might take the risk and fish with two rods this year, as I've only been checked once in 28 years.
It'd be just my luck though...

If changes go through the only difference is before July 1 you'll have the option of still paying $26 if you don't want a second pole license. Come July 1 will that $26 license now automatically be good for a 2nd pole? I imagine so just for the sake of simplicity with enforcement but I guess we'll have to look for details if it comes out. I got a second pole permit for the first time last year and it expires in May. My regular license expires in June. I'm not planning on getting a second pole license unless it automatically included in the regular as 99% of the time I just fish one anyways.

I think that the new license fee will be more than $26.00.
But it will be less than having to but a second pole permit and a fishing license combined.
Wasn't it going to be like $35.00 after July 1?
Still very cheep entertainment.

I believe it is going to be raised 8$ so it would be 34$ and include the 2nd pole permit.

I have to get an out of state license. I hope it doesn't get too much more expensive.

I guess I just assumed they raise it by the full $15 for everyone.
