Otter Creek Ice fishing
#1
Is there safe ice at Otter Creek yet? Also, how many inches of ice is considered safe? Is 5 inches safe for augers and ice fishing? Thanks.

A friend of mine went a couple days ago. I didn't ask him how thick the ice was, but he said it was slow fishing.

5" of clear ice is plenty safe.

Is that near the shallows? I called Sportsman's Warehouse this morning and he said there was only 3-4 inches. I don't know if 4 inches is enough for me. I wish the DWR would come out with a report.

I was at Ottercreek on the 14th. 4-5 inches of good ice. This was at midlake. Fishing was slow.

Awesome! I'm hoping to make it up there over Christmas Break. If not that then I'll have to settle for Scofield. I'm just jonesin' for an OC football rainbow.

Here is a facebook link for Otter Creek State Park. The park ranger does a pretty good job of keeping you up-to-date and answering any questions you have.

Fished there saturday. Ice was 3"-8" depending on where you fished. It was plenty safe. Fishing was very slow. I would give it a couple more weeks before it should turn on.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll wait till at least after Christmas before I head up there. Maybe it will turn on then.

Did you hook any fish? It was slow last time I was up there but we got 8 trout between the three of us. I'm hoping this next storm will add to the ice there. The moon is full today and that always seems to have an effect on the fishing.

Sorry I left that part out. Yes we caught 9 total in our group of 9. Two of us lost two big fish that broke our 6lb test line. I think I'll put on heavier line next time.
