mantua trout limit?
#1
Just curious of the actual trout limit at Mantua. I've read it's 2 but since it's not listed on other websites as a specific body of water it's been debated that the limit is 4 per fisherman. We've been killing the rainbows this weekend and only brought hone 2 wash day, Friday and today. So can anyone clear this up for me? We've released some real nice sized ones back.

I read it as four in possession.

Where did you hear it was only two trout? I thought that was only at community ponds and lakes that have slot limits.

That's too bad, we've put some good ones back in there out of the kindness of our hearts then haha

Had read it on a website, we even got online to double check while there but couldn't find a site that clearly said 4.

Where did you read that?

From the guidebook:

Quote:Trout, including salmon, grayling and hybrids (a combined total), except no more than two can be lake trout/mackinaw. Also, you can take extra brook trout at some waters in the state.*
4

Mantua isn't a Community Pond. It doesn't have any other special regulations.

I certainly wouldn't worry too much about putting the good ones back. That's not necessarily such a bad thing.

Went to Mantua today for my first ice trip of the year. By count, I was the 51st truck there, and more came later.

Everybody I saw was catching fish, mostly trout in the 15-inch class. I kept two myself. They were cruising about three feet under the ice and hitting white jigs with either waxies or 1" Gulp Alive minnows (what I used.) Had one trout so eager he took BOTH my jigs; had one hooked in each side of his mouth. They do like that Gulp stuff!

Beautiful day, great company of former strangers, good fishing - and good CATCHING. Didn't take a camera; maybe next time.

I had the same luck, about 4 ft under the ice with a flasher above a Berkley scented tube and a white and pink ratso tipped with meal worms, we caught a ton. Got some 16-19 inch fatties, they slammed the baits... Great opening weekend!
