Carp fishing Lake Powell?
#1
I was wanting to fly fish the abundant carp at Lake Powell. I know people feed them and they hang around the docks but can I fish for the from the docks? Or park my boat right there and catch them? Or should is there elsewhere on the lake I should fish for them?

Carp are not as numerous at Powell as they were. Their numbers have been reduced by the bigger stripers, which in search of a decent meal w/o chasing shad, have reduced the numbers from huge schools of 1/2 - 1lbers to the ones you see around the docks, which are to big for the stripers to eat.

If you want to fly fish for some, Utah Lake, Pineview, Deer Creek, and even Flaming Gorge would be a better choice. More of them !! The Gorge would be my choice because they are the most aggressive carp I have ever seen. They hit jigs, grubs, cranks, etc. And they are big !!

I fly fish for them off the docks while waiting to board the house boat, all anyone has ever said is that it was neat when I would catch one

Personally I think fishing from the dock should not be allowed anywhere but if it is not posted, I would do it.
