[frown] has anyone done a mod on the jaw jacker yet
disapointed with jaw jacker not that don't do everything they stated they will do but they wont work with my larger ice rods my 42 inch rods are to long and they are far better than any store bought ice rods I just cant bare to buy Chinese junk rods.
I will just have to figure a mod for the jacker since my rods are about 6 to 8 inches to long for it

Are you disappointed because it took the joy out of watching your pole tip move and the rush of setting the hook or are you disappointed for another reason?

I'll bet you love those 42" rods? I have a Microlight 48" I bought at least 10 years ago and I am going to cry when it breaks.
The 48" rod is too long for an icehouse.
Where did you buy the 42" from?

I build them for myself I build several types but the 42 inch is my favorite and they can be used in the ice shak with no problems we sell them also here is a couple of pictures

That's too bad it doesn't work with your rods. There has got to be some kind of way to mod it to make it work, if you don't mind cutting the jaw jacker up.
What if you used a small piece of square tubing and attached it to the back of the grey arm to extend it a little bit?

+100.
I want to set the hook, not have a machine do it for me.

Maybe he likes fishing with two rods and not having them sit right next to each other. Not sure why everyone bashes on using jaw jackers so much. Sure setting the hook is fun but, but anything that helps you catch more fish can't be such a bad thing.

Not bashing it, i just think it takes away from the hook set part of fishing which to me is part of the thrill. If someone likes to use them, more power to them, its just personal preference. If you are after pure numbers of fish, the jacker is great. I go for more of the relaxation and the challenge of my skill vs the fish. Potato/puhtato.

I have a jaw jacker and I don't use it a lot.
I do use it at places like Strawberry though.
If I'm fishing for anything other than trout, I don't use it.
It is simply another tool that is nice to have in the arsenal.

[#0000FF]As you know, I too prefer the longer rods. And I also figured out that the JJ was for rods shorter than I use. So I messed around with making my own release setup. But the main thing was that I had to use one of my already made "Quick Draw" rod holders. See pics.
You can use your JJ with one of the rod holders set back at the necessary distance.

That's understandable. I don't always end up using mine 100% of the time either, but I do like using it to set up multiple baits and see which is working best. Everyone has their preferences I guess!

Instead of cutting up and moding the Jaw Jacker maybe you could just use a longer tether that attaches to your eyelet. Maybe start out with something cheap and adjustable like zip-ties. Yes, No????

the one and only reason I bought the jaw jacker is because when you take small kids or in my case small grand kids you sometimes can't man all the rods and I thought that with the jaw jacker that I might have time to work with the grand kids and still have a line in the water and be able to let them reel them in while I still have time to split between them
I thought it would be a great tool and im sure it is and I will just have to use a smaller rod.
I really hate small rods and something that I haven't built for myself

That is a good idea. But if he did that how would the line sit on the trigger? Wouldn't the trigger still need to sit out in front of the rod tip? Or would you just reverse it and have the line coming from the rod tip back towards the Jaw Jacker?

I haven’t done the R & D on it; I was just tossing out ideas. I have three jackers so I’m familiar with the design and believe it could work as intended even with longer rods.

That's actually a really good idea, I wonder if it would get in the way of the line when your reeling in. I have some and they are great especially when fishing for burbot at night when you can't see all your poles.

I think it's always kinda cool to hear the jacker go off, it adds a different kind of excitement, especially cause it doesn't work a 100 percent of time, so you still have that rush of of hurrying over to it to see the fish is still hooked.

I 'm thinking of cutting the gray square tubing and adding some light aluminum square tubing the length needed to extend the operating arm.
but make the tubing large enough to side giving the arm some more adjustment what do you all think
