I like the bunny midge and was wondering what else works on the Provo before I tie up a bunch.

Cripples and crystal BWO's but I also found tying Elk Hair caddis type flies in smaller sizes and using maybe Antron or CDC for wings is awesome. And my favorite, a snow midge with thread body and white hackle. All in #22 and smaller, but 22 is my fav.

Try some of the ones on Curtis Fry's/Clark Pierce's blog. Particularly the foamerger and the Orange Asher. http://www.flyfishfood.com or here's one specific post about midges: http://www.flyfishfood.com/2013/01/midge-alicious.html These guys have a great blog and awesome fly patterns.

Pattern isn't usually too important with tiny flies, but I reach for these two the most. A #20 always does it, and a #18 works more often than not. Steak dinner compared to a bunch of tiny #24's! Like was said, cripples and emergers are deadly too.

Top one looks like a Gorge Burger. I love that simple pattern. I also tie it using Snow Shoe bunny for the wings instead of foam. I like your choices. I need to tie some of them up. Gray and brown along with the black. Try a brown with a red rib.

Cool patterns and I will report back with any success stories.

BTW I fished an orange asher today and didn't get any hits. My buddy had a couple hits on an olive wooly with black hackle so I threw a black mohair leech and caught 10 today. <-- should I write about that on a different thread? [signature] |
