New Years at Strawberry
#1
Hit the marina for third time this holiday season. Fished in 26 feet of water. Saw fish on the fish finder until we left at 4:30 but only iced five all day. 3 cutts and 2 bows. Everyone was caught on something different. I have never seen so many fish and had so few bite. We threw every size and color down the hole along with an endless buffet of chub, mealworm, crawlers and shrimp. We were engaged with fishing coming around regularly but most were just window shopping. A beautiful new years day up there and we had fun trying to figure out what they wanted.

Road to marina is passable for all.
Ice I measured at 8 inches.
Snow on ice is 1 to 2 inches.

I also went on New Years to Strawberry. Very similar report for me as well. Slow compared to last week, fished about 25 feet of water for half a day only landed a few.

fished the bay(strawberry bay) new years eve, caught 35 fish all day. the fishing slowed down at about 12:30, we caught 2 fish after 12:30, the other 33 were caught before. with what i have heard, the fishing should've got better again around 4 till dark. i don't know how the night fishing is.

Man, you guys did better than me. I was on the ice at 6 and didn't catch a thing until I hooked ONE around 10 a.m. and he got off after about 5 seconds. (I assume it was a world record trout [Wink])

It was a real kick in the pants while walking back in from the skunk, seeing a guy reel one in.

I'm meticulously planning out my next trip. No random spot on the ice. Must. Find. Structures.

I think I was to the north of you in a black shelter with one kid, your blue shelter looked familiar when I saw the picture. We stayed inside our shelter the whole time and got there just before 9am. My son loves ice fishing but not the cold. The day was beautiful and very warm inside the shelter. He has been with me on every ice fishing trip up there now for the past four years. Always fun watching them hook into the fish at the berry.

I was fishing with LakePowell22 on new years day and had my 2 kids with me. I saw you and your boy come out about 9 and set up your black tent. Once you guys went in I never saw you again. Must have been warm in there! How was the fishing for you guys? It was slow all morning for us. We Caught a few at random times but nothing consistent.

I had my 3 girls with me in a green Eskimo. We had a hard time also. my oldest landed 3 (2 bowa and a cut), and I landed one cut. my other two girls goose egged it. They would have been more disappointed if they weren't having such a great time sliding on the clear ice right next to where we were fishing. We moved a couple of times, but saw very few fish on the finder. I am still trying to find some ice fishing that is not slow going.

It gets into the 60's inside when the sun is out like it was that day. I keep a digital thermometer in there and in the spring time it has hit 80 degrees. When it comes to fishing with kids I have found that keeping them warm can mean hours more fishing.

We saw fish on the finder at a decent rate but getting them to bite was the hard part. There is a spot that was just south of where you were that is 22 feet but we were in 26 feet and saw fish at 24 to 26 until we left at 4:30. One bow and two cuts were caught in that range.
