Yuba Report!!!
#1
Went to Yuba yesterday with my fishin partner jdawg. Although the catching was a little slow we had an absolute amazing time! The ice was around 8 inches thick and really noisey! Jdawg caught his first ever northern pike. He was jumping around he was so excited. We fished for a few hours and managed to each pull a pike through the ice. Even though those guys are fun to catch that wasn't the highlight of the trip. My first catch and highlight of the day was a perch... yes i know that doesn't sound all that impressive. What made it so awesome was the fact that it was 14 inches long! I have never seen a perch so big.
All in all it was a beautiful and fun day on the ice. I cant wait to do it again!

Thanks, I would stay away from the heavily fished areas. Try and find areas with rocks and points. We fished about 20-25ft of water and caught our pike off the bottom and about 8ft below the ice. Try jigging with a spoon tipped with sucker meat. They seemed to like that.
Good luck tomorrow, let me know how you guys do.

[#0000FF]Nice perch. Just like the days of old...but there were a lot more of them.

You gonna need more than one for a big batch of chowder. But if you fillet out those pike and dice up the fillets they go good in the chowder too.

Yeah its the only perch we caught all day. I was supprised to catch it though. It took the chub I had out for the pike. Hows the white bass fishing at UL? Ive been thinkin about heading down soon. I bet the WB would be delicious in that chowder.

[#0000FF]Not surprising you caught the big perch on a minnow. That's what I used to catch several mega perch at Willard in the late fall. They are meat eaters. I'm betting that if a dedicated perch jerker went down and really worked at it they might score some more perch. There have been others caught recently.

White bass are excellent in the chowder. A big batch I made for the family on Christmas eve had a mix of white bass, perch and shrimp. No survivors.

White bass fishing has been much slower overall this year. There are still some being caught here and there but most of them are small. Should be some bigger fish and more of them by next year.

If you can get into some decent sized bluegills they also make good chowder fodder.

I sure hope so, I didn't have much luck last year with the white bass either. Hopefully next year is better. Maybe ill try and stick with searching out the pearch, crappie and blue guills this year.
