FL last weekend
#1
here's a few pics from FL last weekend. pretty epic fishing. The wind was typical, the 3 times I've fished there have all been in hurricanes.

Excellent pics!!! I have a 4 day trip planned to FL on the 17th. Did you run into any splake? Any perch bigger than 9"?

never measured the perch, they all seemed to be 7-9 inches. we caught well over 200 hundred in a short time frame. Not as many splake this time, probably missed the good bite while chasing perch. but the perch were in 22 feet, we caught small splake in that depth, we just had to really use the cams to keep the perch off and give the splake a chance at our jigs. we moved out into 43 feet of water and I'd say we caught 35-40 fish, a decent mix of bows and splake, splake were on the bottom or ten feet off the bottom. bows were in that 15-20 foot suspended range. I bet 35 feet on the bottom would've been better for the splake, last two trips before seems like that was usually a good depth for them. be sure to have tie down stakes along with your corner stakes if you're using a tent, the wind isn't an issue if you use both.

Thanks for the info. I hope the fishing is as good for us as it was for you. Always a good time at FL. I've seen other posts about the wind being terrible up there over the last couple of week. I have the corner stakes but it sounds like I better take the wind seriously and get some tie downs.

What were they hitting on if you dont mind me asking?

yeah, definitely pick up 4 stakes for tie downs and the wind is not an issue. we used rat finkees in orange and green, tipped with meal worm for the perch and the splake in the area hit that as well. when we moved out deeper I used a green jighead and a white cuttrbug tipped with perch and that worked well for both bows and splake. I used a lindee frostee in an orange and green color on the jacker tipped with perch as well and that did good on bows.

Wind: It's fairly predictable. Just watch the weather forcecast. If there is a storm front moving across Utah (like the one from last weekend), then you should plan on wind. The week before, there was virtually no wind at all.

So, just watch the weather forecast and you'll know whether to plan on wind or not.

In the spring / early summer the wind is also fairly predictable: 11:00 a.m. the wind starts to blow.
