Hit the ROCK at 6:45 am after leaving my house at 5:57. third jeep on the ramp. the blue one. walked out to the south about a half mile in the area of some rock jetty's on the shore line, set up the fish hut and started drilling. Ice was 12 inches, when my buddy arrived at 7:30 just before the sun came over the peaks he said his car temp was 7 outside. i think it warmed up since i got there. few good hits right away and nothing.... 9am....nothing.... sun was out, air was clean, and we caught more nothing.
buddy set up out side in the sunshine, BAM nice 13 inch trout. he let it go. then his guy with him BAM, perch right off bottom. fluke. I dropped the camera down to find out it was 28 feet deep in the middle of the lake where it was 50+ last year... the view on the bottom was about what i expected, soupy for about a foot on bottom and hazy all the way up the column. did not spot a perch on camera at least not one that wanted to be made famous.
all in all about 1pm the bite turned for me, one group left and as they walked away 15 steps I caught a 15.5 inch bow about 15 to 20 feet deep on a white jig with meal worm sweetner on it 6 or 8 inches under a kasmaster de-hooked "flasher". that was the story the rest of the afternoon for me. i fished till 4pm when i hit my four trout limit , one more 16 inches, two 13 pan size, packed it up to be the jeep stuck next to and behind the Ambuli as i left had to manuever some to get out, all the life savers were out on the ice for an unknown reason at the time, I guess a feller rolled his quad over himself. hope he is okay. Not the perch jerkin party i was thinking about, but enough action and bites and nibbles through the day to keep me interested and i managed a dinner out of it. had a good day out with some pals. maybe we hit the Pine view next week.
