little Pv intel for y'all
#1
Pv has been fun for me and my son and some buddies this year. The perch seem to be a bit bigger with some good eating fish in the schools.

My best spot has been north side of cemetary point in 22-31' fow. The bite has seemed best at sunrise and hot again at about 2pm until dark for the perch. After dark the perch seem to disappear and the crappie come out in full force, and i mean in full force.
5-10 feet of my flasher blackened out with giant schools of crappie.

i have had great success using perch meat and eyeballs on spoons and small jigs. As well as waxies of course. Glow has worked well too.

I also like to use marmooshkas and wolfgram tungsten jigs because they get down so fast.

As far as where to fish, i personally prefer to find 22-31' feet of water. The lake has a ton of panfish its just finding an active school or making them bite

As far as crappie at night, me and my buddy the past few trips have tried new random locations and each night we found a ton of crappie and caught a bunch but no fish over 12". My belief is that the lake has such a high population of 1-2-3 year class crappie, that have stunted the overall growth. Lots of crappie to be had on pv just not the size we have had over the past 5 yrs.

One of the crazy things i have noticed is that i have caught crappie suspended in 8 fow, normally i catch my bigger fish suspended 5-8 feet off the bottom...

I hope people are catching the crappie cuz they sure could use some thinning of the herd, the ones that dont make it back down and are small get scaled, gutted and fried up for finger food.

if you have any more questions feel free to ask away, i am willing to help out but cant give away all my secrets

Ice is super thick i believe i measured it close to 20"+ inches....

biggest perch i have caught out of pv is close to 11" with man in the 8-9" range.

The biggest factor for me catching fish is my "flasher" the bite has been so dang light with out my flasher and watching them come to my jig i would never have any idea

hope this helps catch some fish

pm with any questions glad to help and share some info[Wink]

Oh sure. NOW you tell me. LOL!

Went to PV today and followed the principle of "fish where other folks ain't."

And I learned why they ain't.

Nada. zip. zero. and I'm not talking about the Narcissist in Chief. First ice skunk this year.

Tried a hole over the north fork channel by the Port. Not even a flasher blip. Moved to Cemetery Point and thought the way to the north side was too icy for me. Very few people fishing the south side, and even fewer fish peopling that side. Tried holes from 18 to 24 feet with a variety of terminal rigs.

Had a nice hot lunch, got buzzed by two aircraft, and enjoyed the sunshine. Did three good deeds today for other anglers and called it a day at 2:30.

Nice post. Love your style of putting action, (or non action) into words. Thanks

Good info there. Now I hope everyone reads this and goes there to catch some panfish. That way we don't have to hear anybody whining about catching trout.

[#800000]You should have been with Big Earl & me on Monday when we iced over 50 perch and a couple of keeper crappie. The trip before that we brought home 65 and the trip before that we left the hard deck with 62. Big Earl is leaving for Arizona to shoot long range rifle targets but I'll be heading up there on Friday if you're interested.[/#800000]

Good for you Bry, I'm glad to see a few of our long time members are willing to share info that has been in short supply lately. Sound like the view panfish catching is still hanging in there, if you know your way around the lake Also thanks for sharing those slab pics of years gone by. Is Joe still fishing with you or is that GF keeping him off the hard deck now days[Wink]?

Bob- keep me informed about when and where and I'll be there, if the weather isn't too bad.

Very Nice Bryce! Well played, lots of good tips and pointers from a guy who knows how to find 'em.

Awful kind of you to dole out the details. I love those Marmooskas too. Not cheap, but they really do produce. Have you used the ones with the little "jewel"? Watching that on the camera- you really do get a flash as they dance and spin.

I still haven't decided on a favorite color, so many work - white, black, green, red... always hot choices. And glow - gotta love some glow.

Thanks for the report. I really should make the pilgrimage to da View.

So what kind of night hours do you play the crappie? Dusk until . . .
