Wasn't big enough fish to even decide on a winner since they are all small... Okay maybe there are a few over 12" but not many... Think they chose well not having a contest though everyone would have been disappointed with what they were catching... Later J

thats funny because 2 years ago the top 3 fish was all over 22 inches
but they was all dead at the weight in i think there was more then just the fish that was fishy [signature]

I totally agree about the winning fish 2 years ago. Not only were those fish dead, they didn't even look fresh... There was very little control over what was going on in that tourney. It was my first ice fishing tournament and will be my last...

We're they browns or bows, there's a private fish club a couple miles up the river , hahahah !
And even below the dam you can catch better fish than a12 inch bow [signature]

Every now an then usually once a year on the ice, someone will catch a 6 lb bow on hyrum, sometimes It makes the paper, but 3 in one day and in a turnament ????? Really , and they allowed it.
I know last years winner was only like 16inch, we had caught a couple 17-18 inch ers the week before, then headed to the gorge week of the turnament ...... Should have fished the turnament [signature]

Last year the two biggest fish both measured in at 16 inches. One was a rainbow and the other a brown. I was hoping they would host this tourney again this year.

That's funny because two years ago I caught the biggest fish at the tourney, a 22" brown and it was very lively when I turned it in as was the 17" rainbow I turned in. Not cool to insinuate that there was foul play.
There were some fish turned in in the top 5 that were dead but that's a rules problem. Many of the tournaments I fish mandate the fish look freshly caught to turn in. On a ![]() [signature]

Thank You BAC. I remember meeting you at that tournament and really liked the method you have for keeping them alive. I now do the same thing. As for the people hinting that those who won were cheaters. Well there are a bunch of words I would like to use but since this is a family friendly site I will just say, I have no respect for any of you. I caught the 2nd and 3rd place fish(both browns) and witnessed the first place fish caught. Honestly I don't care what you believe.

The year of the dead rainbow was the first year of the tourney. Was that three years ago? If so I apologize to you guys.

[indent]Fishsticker I had the same gut reaction but it's better to educate then berate. [
![]() What sucks about losing this tourney is Hyrum does have plenty of big fish in it. Last year I couldn't fish it because I was in a tournament in MT. I went the day after the tourney and caught six fish over 16" to include another nice 19" brown. They are there in good numbers but they have to be fished different then the average 12" rainbow. BAC, I was so mad last year. I went the week before the tourney to the same general area you and I were fishing the year before and caught several fish over 18(all bows). Couldn't catch crap but largmouth during the tournament. Went back 3 days later and scored a 22" brown. Oh well, thats how it goes.

That's how it works sometimes...it sucks when it does. For this year, there's still Sulphur Creek and Kemmerer tourneys.
It's funny that you mentioned the bass. I too caught a bunch there last year. I've never caught a bunch through the ice at Hyrum but that one spot was thick with them. [signature]

Wasn't there to see your fish, and wasn't at any of the tournaments.
But I think everyone understands there are big browns in hyrum, it looks as if there was miscommunication, as to the prior posts saying they were bows that won, not your browns. Also, it seems that you two know each other, and are educated on how to catch 22 inch browns and so many large mouths that they get in the way of catching 22inch browns...... Sounds like you have it down. That's awesome! FYI, as a 12 inch rainbow catcher that I am, if I ever discoverd the technics to catching 22inch browns and large amounts of largemouths on hyrum.... The last thing I would do is tell people I am capable of it on this forum. But I understand that you had to defend your honor on this topic. Thanks for the clerification , guys!!! [signature]

Mind if inquire about this technique? Typically on ice, I'm not to worried for keeping them alive so much as out of the sun, and packed with snow, depending on air temps.
Usually get home with a set of fishcicles to fillet. Heard of folks who half drill a set of holes, fill the pocket with water for a 'live weel'. Just can't upgrade any trout that have been held, I believe. Bass are ok. My biggest bow there is shy the 20 inch mark, at 19. I have landed a few browns but rare and small. I think I actually landed my first Tiger the other week. But it was a dink. Would be nice to see them do better there. Oh, and there's no bass in that lake [ ![]() |
