Friday pm/saturday am?

I have a continuing education course in Provo tomorrow and Friday, my wife and kids are not coming with me, and in my car I have my augur, flasher, 4 ice rods, spin rod, baitcaster, fly rod with floating and sinking lines, waders, wading boots, float tube, fins......ect.

I am ready for flyfishing to catfishing, and will be spending the days in Provo, and the nights in West Jordan.

Any tips as to what I should do where? I have been trying to keep track of what's open and what's safe, but it changes so quickly I would love to have some pointers.

Deer Creek, the Provo river, Utah Lake, Schofield: they are all on my radar. Have to be home by 4:00pm (Grand Junction) on saturday. I do NOT have 4wd and the weather is a bit sketchy.

I think everyone is trying to figure the same thing out now. It's definitely a tricky time. It's been so warm this week that the ice will be scary in places and runoff is causing things to get murky so if you don't get a lot of replies it may be due to the tricky spot we're in right now. I'm a little too far north for your area of interest, but I'm trying to decide between Kokanee at Porcupine on ice or Willard first boat trip of the year. Don't expect high numbers at either spot. Schofield had Solid Ice as of last Saturday. Not sure how the warm weather will have affected it but there was 2-3 inches of water, with 2-3 inches of crusted snow on top of the water on top of 20+ inches of ice for the entrance to the Dam arm. Not sure what the conditions are on the rest of the lake though. (I've heard a lot of the catching was chubs, but have also heard that people have really landed on the trout.)

I've heard Provo River is doing well, couldn't tell you where or what to use though.. wish I was more help there. (Haven't learned the art of throwing flies around yet.) Deer Creek is Open water in the Wallsburg bay and unsafe ice everywhere else. (the DNR Facebook page says boats are launchable but pretty much limited to the walsburg area)

Utah Lake has unsafe ice everywhere but the Harbors. With the warm weather now I'm not even sure what the harbors look like. Some have been fishing Open Water here with Boats, Toons, and from the docks. Just remember that the Tributaries close March First. (Saturday)

If none of these appeal, Strawberry is just as far out from Provo as Schofield is and has the same safe ice conditions as Schofield. (hopefully the weather stays nice enough to keep it that way.)

How do I know all of this? Well, I've been looking for a spot for Saturday Myself. I'll probably be headed out to Strawberry at this point.. Good luck to you wherever you end up!
