It is not Ice free but I fished it last Saturday in my boat.

You can launch at the Deer Creek marina and about 1/3 of Walsburg bay and out to about 1/2 way through the channel was open Saturday.

I'd guess we're a week away from Ice Free.

It depends on what size of boat you want to launch.

The north end of the lake is open enough to launch smaller boats from the Charleston ramp. There may be some chunks of ice still floating around so be careful and have fun.

That's awesome news. How was the fishing?

The fishing was slow by our standards. We landed 8 (5 rainbows and 3 browns) in about 2.5 hours between two of us.

were you trolling?

Yes, mostly trolling. It was an interesting run ranging from white caps and blowing rain to glassy calm and clear.

We were also doing some boat testing so the entire focus wasn't fishing.

There are always a bunch of planters in with the nicer fish.

All but one of the bows we caught were the 13"-ish planter types.

The browns were a bit bigger (15-16")

We lost the biggest fish of the day before getting it in the boat though. [fishin]
