Big DC brown!

Went fishing today after work. Caught a couple rainbows, then something fierce took me for a ride. 25 inch brownie! Caught it today at Deer Creek from shore. Easily my biggest brown to date.

[shocked] Dang that's one nice brown. Are they popping close to the shore to the point I can cast my fly rod and cast some???

They get pretty close to shore this time of year, but it's a little difficult getting a fly cast out to them..With the steep banks behind, a roll cast would be necessary..I've tried it before at DC, but never get far enough to catch anything, plus the wind is always a doozy.
But it might be doable if you're a good caster. Probably need some sinking line, maybe get you're fly down 5-15 feet deep..Try a big black bunny leech or something like that. [signature]

You should be able to. Every hit that I had on Sunday was within thirty feet of the shoreline.

That is a great fish! Early in the year you have a good chance for the browns before they head down for the summer. That is the fun thing about fishing, you never know when you might be rewarded with the catch of a lifetime. Way to go ][signature]

What kind of tackle/lure we're you using? I haven't had much luck fishing from shore for trout there.

Browns for sure! But I target anything with fins. I think suckers are the most underrated in the state. [signature]

No diss intended, just curious what perked your pleasure with the post? Tiz a nice fish, head almost seems bigger than the body. Those browns sure do have some jaws (da dum, da dum, dum dum dum dum.....) Wind is always a pain, unless your sailing, then it's a blessing. Or flying a kite Thanks for the post.
