Starvation 3/22
#1
Art ( Kokanee Creek Tackle) and I went over to Starvation Sat. to try and find some walleye. We tried a few places that had been recommended but it was like the finder was broken, nothing to be found. The famous Starvy wind started early and would'nt leave us alone to try jigging so we elected to troll for rainbows. We went around the bridge and found some bow's who wanted to play. We never did get out of the wind, but the catching was pretty steady for three hours or so. Art used a pink squid behind a silver dodger and I used a pink spinner behind a silver dodger, all Kokanee Creek stuff. We fished between 12 and 16 feet deep, boated 20 bow's, 5 of them 2 1/2 to 3lbs. Water temp first thing was 40.2 and warmed all the way to 42 by 3;00PM. Air temp wasn't that warm!

If I squint my eyes I can see a koke on that pink squid! Sounds like you had a fun day other than the tempest. I hate wind. The consolation is that the good fishing is still ahead, and good weather too.

Nice looking rainbows. You know the water has not warmed up much since the ice came off. We have picked up a few walleye and browns but we have had to fish slow and on the bottom to get them. Starvation has become a fun place to fish because of the variety of fish in there. The only down side to Starvation is the pesky wind. Sounds like you had a steady, fish catching day.[Smile]

Nice going Gary and Art, that third bow looks like a fatty. Thanks for the report a pics. Before you started Bow fishing were you guys using some of your Western Walleye series worm harnesses for the eyes?

Curt, our plan was to do some bottom bouncing, but we couldn't find any eye's where we thought they should be and the wind was going to be hard to control speed. That's why we went after bows. They were all very healthy fish and great color as well.

[fishin]Good going Gary, there are some nice rainbows at Starvation. That's my favorite next to Lake Powell. Have you given any more thought about going to Powell?

Gary, very nice fish you seem to be nailing some beauties this year, great job!! When do you start your Gorge trips for the Kokes? I've heard the stocking for the Gorge has really dropped off the last few years, have you noticed a drop in your takes out there? Wish we had some bows like your Starvy bruisers up here, they are a blast to catch... Thanks for the story and pix's they are fun to see... Later J

Nice fish. Like the pics. I wanted to go out there this week. Wind changed my plans. Wind is the only thing that will keep me from fishing. Maybe next week. Starvation has the best rainbows ive caught so far.
