Kids learning to fish
#1
I want to take my 6yo and 8yo out and let them catch some fish. We're in Utah county. Any advice?

Utah Lake is the place to start. Do an archive search and read up. It can be hit and miss at first, but there are lots of chances to catch several species. White bass will be running up tributaries soon, but you have to wait until May. Panfish from the docks in Provo and Lindon harbors, and Lincoln Beach areas. Catfish all along the weed and rushes banks..

Might be a tad early for Utah Lake...for kids and this time of year, I'd recommend Deer Creek or that little pond up by Vivian Park and fish for rainbows which are very active right now. Assuming you're shore fishing? Stop by sportsmans or cabelas and those guys can set you up; probably the usual stuff, worms, green poo bait, etc. Good luck, I hope those kids get into some!

Boatloadakids just posted a good day for cats at Lincoln. DeerCreek might be great, but I strike out there as often as not. UL is a little early for panfish, but seriously any day now. Saw some guys catching bluegills, crappie, and bullheads in the Provo marina the other day.

Spanish fork reservoir would be a good place to start with a bubble and a worm. You don't snag on nothing but you'll only catch smaller trout. Another benefit is that it's a smaller body of water and easy to keep track of kids and it's free to fish.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think we will try Utah Lake. I'll let you know how it goes.
