		Gotta love em...

Have you ever tried fishing for them at night? If you know of any big deeper pools with a lot of logs or structure... sneak down there at night and fish something that will get their attention... The big boys and girls sleep during the day. [signature]

I wish there were more around. There the tuffest trout in the state in my opinion. I don't think there planted anymore- as far as I know, so any brown that you catch would be native- as far as planter vs wild. And they are defintly more carnivorous. Catching a trout that you know wasn't planted- like bows. I just like knowing that fish was born in that water an not just some pellet fed dunsky.

Big +1 on the mouse. I love the Deer Hair Mouse any time of day, but early, late and after dark is definitely prime time. Especially on the Web.

Still plenty of browns to be had except for 6th water where they killed all the 20+ inchers off a few years back. Think small streams and creeks or Cricks as TD would say.

Huh... I didn't think brown trout were planted at all in utah. Not even in comunity ponds.

Those could have been the old brood brown trout that were used to create tiger trout.

According to the stocking report on the DWR web site, they still plant a significant number of Browns, but in a limited number of waters. Most are between 2" and 4" long.

Looking at last years numbers, it looks like about 2000 14-inchers were planted in Hyrum res last November. [signature]

Kent you are right. The brown trout in my pictures were the brood stock from 2 years ago. It sure is way more fun than catching those tiny 6 to 8 inch fish commonly found in the community ponds. [signature]

Yeah that makes sense. You need browns to make tigers. I just didn't think they were planted at all. And I've seen old brood stock lake trout in comunity ponds- that won't make it through the week. But its cool that a kid or myself (at heart) can enjoy them.

Looks like they've planted about 72,000 Brown Trout so far this year. Almost 20,000 of them were food for the Northern Pike at the Lee Kay ponds.

May not be fishing the right waters, or the right way. I know Blacksmith fork they've had signs encouraging folks to take a limit, for Cutts.

The Logan has plenty, even caught them in a ditch in town. Some fish don't need lots of planting to be plentiful, but there's definitely a prevalence for Rainbows when you peruse the stocking reports. |
