These blow in and blow out storms are getting a bit tiresome. Forecasts all seem to be fairly close to the same for this weekend. A nice day tomorrow, then more T-Storms and rain Friday. Was planning to take a trip to Cutler for my first look-see. And I think I still might try Friday. Only not take the Tin-Can, just my poles and tackle and a camp chair. If it isn't raining I'll try some bank tangling, if it is raining, well all I have to do is get back in the truck. Besides, I'm working on some updates to the boat trailer, and only have one side guide on it right now.

I'm just glad this one actually gave us some decent precip. At least we got something out of it. It seems all the other storms lately are just a bunch of wind, cold and clouds with nothing positive about them.

What time you thinking of going? I could maybe duck out of work a bit early if you're still at it mid afternoon or so. Unless weather has crapped out.
Ah springtime.

If I didn't have to work, I'd join you hoodlums...
Still, if you're going to be at Benson Marina, maybe I'll swing by around 1:00 or so, just for a bit to see if you're catching anything. What do you guys drive? I'm in a red dodge neon and I'm out there at Benson Marina quite a bit.

I haven't got into the crappie this spring, but I've seen posts of occasional accidental catches... Haven't seen any real numbers of crappie yet at Cutler... Did hear stories of small ones at Newton but you know how stories go..... Later J

I stand corrected. Nice catch, were they local? I keep thinking you're going to put the first 30" cat on the board, but I wasn't sure you were still fishing much this spring. I'd love to find a nice batch of crappie like that but I haven't had the patients for it this spring. If I don't find one in fifteen minutes I put out another bait pole for cats. Good job. Later J

Hey, let me throw this out for comment or discussion or consideration....
How about a super prize for the first 30+ cat caught this year? Sounds like everybody is looking for their first 30 incher and I know you northern guys have been racking up some dandies but no 30 inchers yet. I also know we are not exactly burning up the contest page here in the south but, and mark these words... our time will come.
Maybe a $500.00 Cabelas gift certificate for the first 30 incher?? Or, in the alternative, maybe Yote could use his talents to print up a Super Cat Man certificate or what ever. Or, maybe just a bragging rights recognition??
Just a thought for a little more fun in the contest. What say?
Still waiting for a break in the weather.......

Sounds great. I'm all for interim prizes to keep things interesting. So are you offering to donate? I'm not sure how they did it, but the fly-fishing contest had a lot of good gadgets that were offered up. Since only about half of the entrants have put their money where their mouth is, the contest kitty is a little light (ANTE UP!) but I'll do what I can for some extra bits and pieces, even if I make 'em myself.
If I had more hutzpa, I'd pound the pavement and knock on fishing shop doors for donations. May still do. Anyone down to Cabelas or a Sportsman want to inquire. We'll share free advertising of where the donations came from. I do have BFT stickers (if anyone wants some).
I'll offer this much there will be a PRIZE awarded for the first over 30 catfish marked to the contest. Might just be a small care-package. But it'll be something.
We do have a screen-printer on board, and there was talk of arranging something.
If you have ideas or offers, a pm is welcome.

Too many ducks to line up, so I didn't make it out "early" but I did head down to the river to pray around 4, right about when the rains started, and the wind whipped up. Gave it a try anyway (glutton for punishment). But I actually had my mind on Crappie and Bass. No such luck this round. Bells and all, my "other" pole lost the de-bait, as usual.
Wasn't on the river long before the white caps riled up, and the drizzle got more serious. So I bailed to tend to my perpetual tail-wagging beggar.

Couldn't bring a skunk home, so I had to at least battle a good tug, and landed this half naked Golden Tarpon. Not the stack of slabs I might have preferred, but tugs is tugs.
So did you get out? How'd it go?
Jeff - did you conduct your Hyrum Experiments? Seems we're in for more fine spring weather. Grr.
