Northern Bear River Smallies.
#1
Nope, not Cache County, this was in Idaho.

So I got an invitation a few days ago from a friend to join him on Oneida reservoir today for a chance to catch some walleyes. The day and scenery was absolutley beautiful and the hospitality was equally great. To make a long story short, we started out by the dam and worked our way up lake from there, pitching jigs, cranks and running worm harnesses.
No luck on the walleyes, but good luck on the smallmouth bass. I think we caught 8 for the day and they were pretty decent fish. Really pretty colored to boot.

Anyway, a big thanks to my host and I can't wait to get back there soon and beat the walleye skunk away!

Nice looking basses. Too bad the eyes didn't play. That's one I gotta try. Think I need to line up a camping weekend, oh and fishing!

I've always fished the river, but this is the first time I put real effort into the lake. It was worth it. It's a beautiful place to camp a well. Not much fishing pressure even in summer. I'll be back for the walleyes throughout the summe and fall when I can, I don't take a whipping lightly! I'll figure those pesky "eyes" out, but in the mean time, the smallmouth will keep me happy. Cutler is my next trip. Gotta start putting some cats on the board!

I'm kind of the opposite up there. The smallies are so much fun that I target them, and occasionally I happen into a walleye or two. They keep it interesting adding a little variety, but the bass fight and hit so much harder that I spend my time chasing them.

Looks like a good mess of fish. How was the water clarity? I am looking to give a go here maybe this weekend and its a long drive so just trying to get current info. Did you happen to get a water temp? Were the carp on the surface in the shallows? (PMs are welcome)

Sorry for all the questions and internet scouting but Oneida was my favorite lake when I lived there and now I live 6 hours away. Just trying to figure out if one last trip is worth it before I move even further away in a few weeks.
